Return to Crossroads Cafe at The Marriott Tang Plaza Singapore for Oktoberfest with Sylvia Fernandes

Published - 22 September 2020, Tuesday

Returning to the Crossroads Café I was there to savour the new gastronomic a la carte treats created by Chef Matthew. The buzzy atmosphere of this al fresco dining space never ceased to attract me, as I relaxed into my chair and sipped on a chilled glass of Italian Pinot Grigio.

But, before I go on, I wanted to highlight this months focus. Feast on traditional German delicacies and enjoy this Bavarian festival at Crossroads. Think Crispy Pork Knuckle with Red Wine Braised Red Cabbage, Grilled Pork Bratwurst with Sauerkraut, Veal Schnitzel with Potato Salad, and more. Available until 11 Oct, 2020 find out more HERE.

Now, let's return to the regular menu. Adding a touch of Mediterranean to the menu, the mezze platter was a very apt start to the afternoon. Almost everything on the platter was familiar - hummus, tzatziki, tabbouleh, dolma, feta, olives, and artichokes, except the muhammara which I had not tasted before.

Made out of a base of walnuts and a touch of lemon, spice and paprika this was certainly a hit for me. The combo with warm pita bread was a heart-warming dish, so easy and tantalising to the palette.

Crossroads Café have a Lobster Tuesdays special where Grilled and Thermidor styles cost about $58++ each. Both served with French fries and salad they come with homemade butter sauces and hollandaise respectively.

With succulent and juicy flesh, these treasures of the sea are imported from the U.S. - a really worthwhile treat! Try it out with a happy hour drink of Sangria, red or white wine, beer or house spirits that runs from 11am to 8pm, for only $10++.

As my lobster began to digest with a few sips of wine, I was confronted with two burgers – impossible you might say! Yes it was Impossible. This plant-based meat that tastes just like meat, was put together in a burger patty and served with a spaghetti Bolognese sauce. Delicious!

Over to the real meat burger, I crunched into the buttermilk fried chicken patty that was accompanied with red cabbage slaw, gerkins and a spicy mayonnaise.

Even though I loved the Impossible burger I loved this more. The spicy mayonnaise was a perfect accompaniment to the chicken. Priced in the $25++ range these burgers alone are worth a trip to Crossroads Café.

I was ready to surrender when I saw the size of the T-Bone Westholme steak. This 400-day grain-fed Australian wagyu beef is available in T-Bone and Sirloin cuts.

Although the T-Bone was $168++ for almost a kilo, it could easily feed six people. Juicy and succulent, it was grilled to perfection. Served with a choice of béarnaise, red wine or black pepper jus this was a real treat.

I would recommend a glass of red wine as a pair with this deliciously tasty meat. My preference was also to have it with a dollop of mustard, to appreciate the full texture of this juicy meat.

To end this flow of gastronomic lunch treats, I had the cheesecake that had caramel drizzled on top of it. To have or not to have was the question. Doing my best to keep away from dairy I could not help but deep dive into more than half of this yummy dessert.

Well so much for resolutions! My foodie mind took over on this occasion and I let it. These gastronomic treats at the Crossroads Café were too good to miss!
