NOX Dine in the Dark

Published - 12 September 2018, Wednesday

Opened in August 2013, NOX Dine in the Dark is Singapore's first and only 'dining in the dark' concept.

Revolutionising the way people interact with food, the unique dining experience first begins at the lounge where diners are treated to a welcome drink and amuse-bouche.

The real multi-sensory experience begins when diners are led into a pitch-black dining room, where they have their remaining four senses of taste, smell, touch and sound elevated and heightened.

The is a three-course mystery set menu comprises of 12 dishes (4 appetisers, 4 mains and 4 desserts).

How many of the dishes do you think you will be able to detect in the pitch dark?

Challenge your friends and find out the one with the best taste buds.

Before we had even reached the top of the stairs, it was pitch black in the restaurant.

A truly unique experience that will test your taste buds as you try to guess what all the delicious parcels of goodness are that you’re eating.

Great service by Joshua - who along with the other waitpersons upstairs - are all visually impaired, moving around the darkness with vocal sounds and memory. Truly incredible, highly recommend giving it a go!

Went to Nox last night surprising my friend for his 30th Birthday, striving for an experience that would not be easily forgotten! As Australian foodies Oh boy! were we impressed. From the friendly hosts, our guide Bernard and the gastronomic flavours that we savoured: everything was superb, making it the perfect ending to a special day.

Being led up the stairs by our visually impaired waiter to a dining room devoid of any light initially set our hearts racing alarming our nerves as we made our way to our table. But once seated at our table with our cocktails and navigation sequence around the table explained, all the anxious feeling dissolved leaving us with nothing but sheer excitement!

With no cell phones to check our IG updates, feeds from FB or messages, we were left at the mercy of good old fashioned conversation. (Though lack of words have never been my problem)

We delighted in discussing and deciphering the melange of textures and flavours before us; with our sense of taste, smell and touch all heightened from our temporary loss of sight.

We caught on soon that rather than simultaneously sharing our thoughts - Its best to wait to the end of each dish before commenting so that we didn't influence each other too much.

With the Nox dining in the dark experience, your self-awareness was also enhanced and after completing the three courses; each one increasing in their richness and palette-weight, it left two boys with a giant gusto for food reeling from fullness.

By the end our host broke down the mystery of the dishes, running through the ingredients paired with images of what we devoured, sparking a free-fall of hilarious conversation and banter.

Just want to say a thanks again for creating a memorable night! Can't wait to recommend and invite friends again later this month.

We will definitely be back
