Spice up your night with a takeout from Chimichanga! With two branches in Little India and Holland Village they are just a phone call away.

I decided to make a night of it and started the evening pre-arrival of food, by setting the scene with Mexican music. I thought “why not create the ambience of a Taverna if I can’t dine at the venue?”

And so it was. Dressing up the table, my hands reached out for colorful crockery, so typical of Mexico. As the doorbell rang I was all set with bling stone ear rings and a skip in my step.

There were 3 of us to dinner tonight and some margaritas in the offing, to start the night. Not yet though. It was the first thing I chucked in the freezer. I wanted it chilling while I got the food ready.

It is important to heat food up when you do takeout, to get the full dining-in experience. Thumbs up to Chimichanga for inserting a card in the takeout order with re-heating instructions.

I am sure many will find this as helpful as I did. To keep your Brr-ito warm, specific instructions like remove foil and microwave for a minute and a half are in this post card.

My preference though out of convenience for tonight was to have everything warmed in the oven on one tray. So I pre-heated the oven at 200c and reduced it to 100c once the food went in.

With food warming up it was time to get the show on the road. Margaritas for two are contained in one pack for $25. In my opinion quite a good deal as it fixed me up for the night and I was happy campers.

This went well with Ancho beef loaded nachos that had the usual punchy salsa verde. A bunch of sauces accompanied the food and in order of highest to lowest spice level we had them all.

These are available for 50 cents each as a top up preference. Colour coded to make it easy for you, watch out for the spiciest of them all – the orange Salsa de Habanero Rojo. I seriously had hot lips after having this.

Then the dark green Salsa de Habanero Verde and red Sriracha. You will probably recognize the light green salsa verde which is usually used over Nachos and Chimichanga.

The oven timer was beeping. Time for mains and my second margarita. The Chipotle chicken quesadilla - spicy & smoky chicken with crunchy red onions and cheese, sandwiched in a wheat tortilla was a natural start.

This is where my adventurous nature decided I would add the orange sauce as it looked the least dangerous. I was completely mistaken. It was the hot lips experience which was delicious and got me going back for more.

This is why margaritas are so complementary to a Mexican takeout meal. They help in a cooling down moment!

The Borracho “Beer Battered” Fish with pico de gallo, red cabbage, sriracha mayo on soft corn tortilla, comes in three’s which was perfect for us. This was a delicious start to the mains as the lightness of fish and soft tacos just melted in my mouth.

Priced reasonably at $14 I feel this could be a hot seller for patrons who prefer a non-meat meal. There is a vegetarian option too for tacos with chipotle mushroom.

Moving on to the Carne Asada Beef burrito, this was filled with amarillo rice, pico de gallo, in a wheat tortilla wrap. Cut in two and foiled, Chimichanga makes it easy for patrons to consume their food.

A real whopper of a meal this would be very satisfying to someone with a big appetite, with delicious flavours of Mexico meshed in this dynamite roll.

By the time I got to the Ancho Beef Chimichanga, I was glad there were three of us devouring this amazing meal. Ancho rubbed beef with amarillo rice, cheese, pico de gallo, in a wheat tortilla wrap and golden fried this was another stunner.

For most of these meals, there is an option to add guacamole for $3. There are also plant based options in the Impossible range on the menu. A full range of cocktails and beers are also available.

It was one of the best takeout meals I have ever had. I felt creating the ambience was important to add to the experience. For a meal like this where sharing plates is excellent, grab a few friends and make a night of it.

There is no doubt in my mind though, that for the value pricing and delicious food,  Chimichanga made it to my regular takeout list!
