The Ranch Steakhouse by Aston is a fine example of a mid-market steakhouse in Singapore. Service is with a smile - but best take your Vivino app with you as the sommelier isn't exactly, er, a sommelier.

We had a great time at the Ranch Steakhouse. The food was fabulous, including the seafood, which is quite rare for a steakhouse! The meat was cooked perfectly and all the sides were very tasty. The service could not have been more friendly and efficient, the wine selection was very good and all reasonably priced. I will definitely go back to the Ranch.

I am not one who usually writes food reviews or Facebook posts but I do feel I need to share my experience I had at Ranch Steakhouse. I was really looking forward to bringing my fiancee after hearing about the grand opening of Ranch Steakhouse. Maybe finally we can get a good steakhouse to fill up the gap between the really high end steakhouses like Cut, Wooloomooloo, Burnt Ends and the low end steakhouses like Jack's Place and Aston's. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were welcome to great service. The manager Freddie Tan showed us the place. I was very impressed by how the place was very well done and visibly more high end than Aston's yet not overbearingly so. Freddie gave us some food recommendations and we finally decided on the Australian 30 years Aged Ribeye as our main (requested specifically for medium rare) and added a Oxtail's Stew & Crabcake as our starters and Cream Spinach and Mashed potatoes as our sides. Overall the entire experience was great and the starters and sides were excellent. The Oxtail could have been a little more tender but overall great taste and the pasta was a nice touch. The crabcake were amazing, I was so impressed at how great tasting the crabcake was without being overly rich. The cream spinach was so yummy and the mashed potatoes were well done too. THEN came the Steak. Upon cutting into the Steak I knew straight away that it was overdone. I would have accepted it if it was medium but the steak was more well done than that. Half the steak was medium well, and some parts even well done. It was clearly overcooked. Without taking a bite, I immediately informed the waiter and the manager Freddie. They brought it into the kitchen and within minutes brought out the same piece of steak. Now what subsequently happened shocked me. Freddie tried to explain to me that parts of the steak was medium rare but he too admited that more than half of the steak was overdone. Now instead of immediately changing and preparing a new steak, he went on to say that they had a $30,000 grill or stove and I immediately cut him off and was like, what's your point? You could have a million dollar stove and still overcook a piece of steak. Especially after admitting that it was overcooked. Now he was added salt to injury by saying that their equipment being so expensive could not have done the steak wrongly. It was so patronising and insulting. I then said, look... it's obvious the steak is overdone. I took more slices of the steak to show him how well done the steak was. So he offered to prepare another steak but maybe half the size. I agreed to that arrangement. Few minutes later he came out again and said that all the steaks were prepared to the exact weight and it was not possible for them to prepare half a steak for him. So I paused and waited, fully expecting him to say no problem we will bring a new steak but he didn't. He suggested giving me a second glass of wine complimentary. I explained that I came here for the steak, not the wine. We just ordered one glass of red wine to go with the steak but we weren't even going to drink as we were going to the gym. Note that this was before I even took a single bite of the steak. Reluctantly I started eating the steak and as expected, it was way too well done and tough. Considering this is the grand opening and Aston's first attempt at a more high end steakhouse I am deeply disappointed and even insulted by the whole experience. Knowing that most of the bosses were there as it was the Friday of their grand opening, I expected the manager Freddie to at least get the owners to address this issue. I made it VERY clear around 4 times that the steak was overdone and not enjoyable. and even left half the steak unfinished at the end of the meal. When I was settling the bill I made it very clear that the steak was way overdone and tough and showed him half the steak I left uneaten. This is the FIRST time I've been to any restaurant or steakhouse where the steak was overdone clearly and they wouldn't immediately change it for a new steak. I could have put my foot down but I didn't see why I had to. The manager or owner could have handled it better. He did waive off my glass of wine $11 but that is not what I wanted. I didn't want a discount, I didn't want a complimentary glass of wine, I wanted my steak to be done properly and redone if it wasn't as I went there for the steak. The manager seeing how disgrunted and unhappy I was, could have offered to invite me back again with a complimentary meal or a big discount and could have said he would personally make sure the steak the next time around would be good. This makes it difficult for me to try this place again or give it a second chance or even recommend this to anyone I know. Until this is rectified, beware of this restaurant. There are way better steak houses out there. Look to Burnt Ends, Wooloomooloo and many other cheaper options of steakhouses that are better. Very very disappointed at how the manager handed the situation. I posted some photos of the steak to show how visibly well done the steak was.

ATTENTION!! I was fortunate to be invited to this amazing place, The Ranch by Astons last night and look no further for good quality cut meats and seafood alike at low cost prices! The decor and high ceilings with sleepers give the feeling you are in THE Ranch, the open style kitchen watching the chefs do there thing is an eye opener. We had cold cut platters of sliced Wagyu beef, homemade crab cake. The New Zealand King Salmon USDA Prime 30 Days dry aged bone in Ribeye, Japanese Hokkaido Wagyu to name just a few! This has certainly made Clarke Quay stand out amongst it friendly rivals in nearby places. Go and experience this place out now. I know we'll be coming back many times!

I had a look at the venue last night. It's great to see quality SteakHouse dining come to Clarke Quay. Over the past few months, we keep hearing good reports from our members about Clarke Quay - how it's finally coming back to its glory days. A destination for all things entertainment. But best of all The Ranch by Astons has opened its doors offering delicious prime cuts of beef at affordable prices.... just what any expat who loves meat wants to hear!
