What a treat to share a meal with Expat Choice founder, John Gordon at one of Singapore's hottest new restaurants. Miznon, located at 6 Stanley Street closer to the Mc Callum Street end.

It is the newest edition to the Israeli restaurant group bringing elevated street food from Tel Aviv to locations in Paris, Melbourne, New York, Vienna and now, Singapore.

Miznon is the vision of famed Israeli master chef winner Eyal Shani. Having dined at the outlet in Paris last year, your reporter was thrilled to be able to return and experience the wonderment of what travel does to all of us - provide us with an authentic local experience - Tel Aviv style. The food is simply delicious. The menu offers high quality, organic food, impeccable preparation and served in or out of the Pita. First let us talk about the Pita.

It come directly from Tel Aviv, having been flash frozen and arriving ready to thaw and bake. It's light and airy and the perfect complement to the Falafel (you’ve never tasted falafel like Miznon's Falafel), steak and egg combo served with Sour Cream, Tomato, Onion and Japanese Cucumber. Ratatouille prepared with a even combination of Hardboiled egg Tahini and a dash of Chilli to give it a special kick.

The Abu Kebab has both lamb and beef. Again, the Tahini, Chilli, Salsa, Pickles, Onions and Parsley combination was a knockout, Chicken Liver Pita was full-on "rich". I am sure this will be a hit with the Asian Palate- not so much to my liking.

You can also try the dishes out of the Pita which offer the items as mentioned above plus a Beef Short Ribs, Roots Stew, the Spicy Moroccan Barramundi Stew and perfectly prepared sides.

I do lean toward vegetarian, so without doubt my favourite are the Batatas - Roasted Sweet Potatoes (pictured above) with a pinch or sea-salt served with a generous side of sour cream. The Batata melts in your mouth and the charred roasted taste which brings a hint of caramelization is exquisite. The portions are large and great for sharing. Nothing on the menu is more than S$26 dollars. If you have any more room in your calorie budget the Israeli Tiramisu is spectacular.

Rumour has it a second location is coming soon to possibly East Coast. Not only is the food delicious, but the vibe is so cool, hip, on brand - both the music and the excellent service. The best seats in the house must be at the bar. The open kitchen concept provides ample entertainment as the team precisely build the menu items in front of you. By the way, the kitchen is spotless. Reservations are filling in record time. We are told bookings are set all the way through to March 2021 and it is not even Christmas yet. So, get yours in early.

Miznon is open 11am to 11pm Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday. Expat Choice was told late lunches and early dinners are your best bets for the bar seating. A small percentage of tables and bar seats are held for walk ins, but we do recommend making a reservation.

You will have a great experience. Bon Appetit!

Missing Israeli food?

Singapore’s first Israeli Eatery, @miznonsg, just opened!
We decided to go for lunch @miznonsg as my partner likes kosher food.
A cozy, warm wooden finishing seatings, with an open kitchen concept. It has a alfresco area, which will be nice with a cooler weather in Singapore.
Here were our orders:

1. Hraime - tomato stew with paprika, garlic, red chilies, and cumin, together with barramundi fillet. The fillet was crisped and well seasoned but I felt it’s a bit too small . This dish served together with pita, with tahini and tiny chopped chili sauce. So you can simply fill the pita with Hramie alone or spread the tahini and chili sauce onto the pita and fill it up with Hramie. Your choice.

2. Bag of Green Beans - it served in a brown bag! A surprise! I thought this was quite a smart move. No need to do much dish washing . The green beans n pea sprouts were tossed in lemon, olive oil, salt and garlic. Love them but not for my stomach today.

3. Hot chickpeas - it came with sliced eggs, onions, tomato cube and chopped spicy green chilies. The chickpeas were cooked with their tahini which was made from the best quality sesame seeds found in Israel. It was mixed with rich olive oil and lemon juice. This gave the chickpeas a nutty yet flavorful, well balanced palate.

A great place for some tasty Mediterranean food with friendly staff and service.

Typical Jewish daily food which we hardly have a chance to taste in Singapore. The pita bread Is fluffy, soft and nutty. One of the best I’ve tried so far. Chefs and serving staff are friendly. Casual and relax ambience.
