Looking for an after work tipple with a bit of atmosphere we decided to check out Miss Fitz, a bar / restaurant located on the ground floor of The Sail complex.

Our immediate impression was we were back in 2019! Miss Fitz and the surrounding venues were vibing and it was only Wednesday – packed with energetic patrons and holding the promise of a relaxing good time. It seems the CBD has indeed returned and with it, the after work drinks crowd.

Miss Fitz presents a trendy, green, open concept with funky artwork all centred around the showpiece red and gold bar. With seats both inside and out it offers an al fresco sanctuary in the CBD with a retro Mediterranean vibe.

The menu is small and selective with a focus on fresh Mediterranean inspired fare, but still offers sufficient choice to keep all manner of dietary requirements satisfied. We started with the Castel Ventrano Olives - green olives marinated in olive oil, citrus and herbs ($8++). The Spiced Hummus ($12++) was a hit and it was well worth adding on the optional crab for only $4++ – a delicate seafood taste was a unique touch for such a classic, well-loved dip. The large portion of tender, juicy Charred Octopus added a touch of spice with it’s scrumptious sambal matah ($19++)

For the bigger plates we tried the colourful and eclectic Spiced Cauliflower and Chickpea Salad ($24++) with spinach, avocado, pomegranate and tahini dressing and the Glazed Short Rib ($22++) which is melt in your mouth tender after being braised for 15 hours.

Onto the drinks and cocktails are the way to go here – with twists on some well-loved classics. I loved the Lemon Spritz ($17++) - Italicus bergamot citrus liqueur, limoncello, prosecco and husband was impressed by the smoothness of the Whiskey Sour ($20++) - Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch Whisky, bitters, meringue and lemon.

Miss Fitz is a welcome addition to the CBD bar scene and with most menu items under $30++ and most cocktails under $20++ it is easily one of the better value establishments on the island.

But our night did not end there…it only got better as tucked away in the back corner of Miss Fitz is an entirely new concept altogether – Roxy. Now I love a hidden small bar, it reminds me of nights out in the back alleys of Melbourne or the heady days spent in New York City and this one ticks all the boxes. With dimly lit red tones engulfing the 20 seater bar, a wall full of enticing bottles, rock & roll art and all the best rock and punk tunes of the 1970’s  – it’s a place where you can groove, chill and let the good times roll.

In a nod to its NYC owner’s hometown, the cocktails are spirit forward classic tipples mischievously mixed with some 1970’s rock and roll. The CBGB Swizzle combines Plantation Pineapple Rum, Cherry Heering Liqueur, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao Orange Bitter Liqueur, Fresh Lime and Orgeat Nutty Syrup – and is a riff on a classic Mai Tai, named after one of the most iconic nightclubs in Manhattan’s lower east side, CBGB, widely considered to be the birthplace of punk. The Factory, named after Andy Warhol’s iconic workplace blends Melati Botanical Aperitif, Mancino Rosso Vermouth, Mancino Secco Vermouth, St George Raspberry Liqueur , Aromatic Bitters and is topped with fluffy orange juice.

Roxy

Roxy’s menu is all about the cocktails – from their signature classics to their Cocktail Flights where you can get three different variations of either a Negroni, Manhattan or a Martini for only $55++. They also might be one of the only bars in Singapore serving Boiler Makers – a simple shot served with a beer, a tradition founded on the docks of NYC in the 1800s.

So get your gang together and find your way (either via Roxy or the unmarked door in the loading dock of The Sail) to this this glammed up “dive” bar inspired by the back rooms and rock & roll nightclubs of 1970's Lower East Side Manhattan.
