New restaurants to try in Singapore June 2019

The gastronomic scene in Singapore is slowly heating up as the World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony draws closer.

We have dozens of internationally renowned chefs gathering in Singapore gearing up for a list of talks and masterclasses. Local restaurants are also gladly ramping up their kitchens as they prepare for an onslaught of discerning diners. 

There have been quite a few openings including the surprise re-opening of Whitegrass as well as the opening of UNA at The Alkaff Mansion and two other concepts in the same location. We know there is something here for all our readers to enjoy!

Sichuan eatery Chuan Hung is meticulous about its artfully prepared noodle broths and spice-laden sides. This casual new Sichuan eatery only serves noodles and an array of small bites

It takes up a corner in a side alley of Telok Ayer Street, in a space furnished with wood and bamboo. Pricing is very attractive with Braised beef ($13.50) or chicken and mushroom ($12.50) are easy comfort food choices.

Bincho at Min Jiang

Bincho

The name of the restaurant is inspired by Bincho-­‐tan, the unique, white charcoal used in Japan to grill yakitori. Chef Asai spent a considerable amount of time in Japan focused on the art of charcoal grilling.

In keeping true to the original yakitori-­‐ya inspired concept, tori {chicken} is featured on the Bincho signature dishes list. Expect $68, $90, and $180 set menus.

With an emphasis on recreating distinctive Peranakan flavours of old, Chong Jun Xiang, Head Chef - Indigo Blue Kitchen shares, “Peranakan recipes are very personal as they differ from family to family.

The recipes are not written out but passed down by taste and word of mouth; from one generation to the next. The cuisine is extremely labour intensive, intricate and precise. A lot of love goes into every process of preparation and cooking.”

UNA at The Alkaff Mansion

UNA, previously at One Rochester, has reopened its doors at The Alkaff Mansion. Housed at Level 2 of the 101-year old heritage building, the Spanish Restaurant and Bar has returned with its past signature items such as suckling pig, selection of Paellas, grills, and more...with a renewed emphasis on Basque Cuisine in a modern and romantic setting.

Its Spanish roots are wedded to the dynamic individualism of Basque cuisine, resulting in a menu of Basque-inspired dishes and popular favourites crafted using the best produce sourced locally as well as from the Basque and Spanish regions.
