Grassroots Bookstore is a Chinese independent bookstore and publishing house in Singapore. It was founded in 1995. It was originally located in Qiaobei Center opposite the National Library. In November 2014, it was relocated to the current location on Bukit Pasoh Road, close to Exit H of Outram Park MRT Station.

In addition to retaining the original categories of Chinese and foreign history, Chinese and Western philosophy, art, movies, drama, Chinese modern literature, Western and Japanese translated literature, the new grassroots library has added books of different styles such as picture books, life aesthetics and food writing. The books are selected from Chinese publications in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and English books with local characteristics are also promoted.

The Grassroots Library often hosts a variety of cultural activities, including new book sharing sessions, reading sessions, film and drama discussions, live music performances, and parent-child reading of picture books. Every one to two months, there will be exhibitions with different themes such as movie poster exhibition, picture book exhibition, traditional costume and handicraft exhibition, etc., making the bookstore present a different style.

The physical bookstore is an important coordinate of the cultural landscape.

Inquisitive about Chinese culture and want to read all about it? Grassroots Book Room is the place to be with its tall shelves occupied with everything on Chinese modern literature, history, philosophy, art, drama and even Western and Japanese translated literature. A prominent book room, you can also peruse their collection of picture books, life aesthetics and food literature. Do look out for cultural activities organized here - film and drama discussions, live music, reading for children and themed exhibitions.

The grassroots library strives to promote Chinese reading, hoping to provide a platform for literary and art workers to share their creative achievements.

I also hope that more friends will join the ranks of Chinese reading and find something suitable for them here.
