Singapore Art Museum

Published - 15 July 2023, Saturday

Singapore Art Museum opened in 1996 as the first art museum in Singapore located in the cultural district of Singapore. Known as SAM, the museum presents contemporary art from a Southeast Asian perspective for artists, art lovers and the art curious in multiple venues across the island, including a new venue in the historic port area of Tanjong Pagar.

The museum is building one of the world's most important public collections of Southeast Asian contemporary art, with the aim of connecting the art and the artists to the public and future generations through exhibitions and programmes. SAM is working towards a humane and sustainable future by committing to responsible practices within its processes.

I love this place... I will find I come here alone and just spend hours going through the exhibition. I wouldn't take a car as public transport is convenient for the area.

Always take my mum here! The Biennale this year was really great. The architecture of this colonial building provides several relatively small and intimate galleries (compared to many bigger art galleries) and so each room can have a theme with a focus seems on modern asian art. There is VERY LIMITED parking out the front (free) for those with elderly visitors and I always get a park, although there is parking in the side streets as well. Dont forget the gift shop with cool singapore themed arty gifts.

Brilliant range of historic and modern art, in such a beautiful and central location. A great way to spend a few hours

Spend half a day here looking at southeast asian history. A must-go if you are a history and arts buff!
