The last few days for me have been tough. They are tough, because when you look at this evolving situation through a global lens, you know we are facing a prolonged crisis that is going to impact us all - in multiple ways.
But I'm not looking to the future right now, I am in THIS moment and attempting to comprehend what it means for all of humanity.
So if you're trying to get my attention for something other than this, it's probably why I'm not being responsive. I don't care about anything else right now.
I am sitting with intense despair when I watch people carrying on with life as normal. We are not in NORMAL times, and I think the bit that is really getting to me is how our inaction has caused this to spread to the most desperate people in the world.
Global leaders are screwing up in ways I find criminal, and yet, voters still believe in them? Really? If your country is hit with a tsunami of COVID-19, let me assure you, your leader does not deserve your support. They have failed you and I hope you eventually see that truth.
We know what this virus does now. We know it is devastating when it makes landfall. And because of our on-going inaction, all we can do is wait and then stand witness to mass grief!
But our inaction is not only putting our elderly and physically vulnerable at risk, or driving our healthcare workers to exhaustion or death, it is putting millions and millions of lives in the developed world at risk too - because they don't have the blessings of home and space like we in the developed world do.
People are living in slums on top of their neighbors. People are living in tents in massive refugee camps. People are on the streets. Undocumented people who escaped hell, are now facing a new hell where, if infected, the worst hit will probably suffocate to death!! Domestic violence is out of control. Sexual abuse of children is happening all over the world, because it always increases in situations like this!!!!!
There are a lot of people going through hideously shit times right now, and all we are being asked to do is stay at home! So do it! #StayTheFuckAtHome because that is the least we can do for our fellow humans.
All of us, right now, need to be doing everything we can to get this under control, because once our country is sorted, all eyes and money will need to go to the developed world to help them control it too. Because until it's under control everywhere, it's not under control anywhere.
Please register this very important truth. If you can connect these dots, you will understand why it's critical we do everything we can, RIGHT NOW!
So please, don't be a bloody idiot and get your arse home. You think this is asking too much? You've got no idea how much worse this is going to get if we don't take it seriously. We don't just need to flatten the curve in our own country, we need to flatten the curve globally.
You doing your part? Anyone in your community that needs a good spanking right now? I tell you, there are a few world leaders I'd love to bend over a desk and give them a mighty slap on the arse.
