Following more than 7 years of success at its initial Boat Quay establishment, Yakiniquest is taking its love for yakiniku to new horizons with its grand re-opening at Level 4 of Mandarin Gallery along Orchard Road.
The upscale yakiniku restaurant spans close to 2,000 square feet with a larger capacity to accommodate a total of 64 diners including 4 private rooms, subject to local dining regulations. While Yakiniquest’s former location utilised smokeless charcoal grills, the Mandarin Gallery premises has incorporated a safer, more environmentally friendly method of cooking using ceramic charcoal gas stoves. This not only allows for better control of the beef’s doneness but also achieves the same, if not even better, grilling outcome.
Yakiniquest’s re-opening on January 29, 2022 coincides with its eighth-year anniversary. Unbeknownst to many in Singapore, it also carries on a decades-old tradition that its founders, Suguru Ishida and his wife, Tomoko, continue to hold dear to their hearts.
Together with three other friends, Mr and Mrs Ishida embarked on a quest since 1998 to eat their way through the very best of Japan’s yakiniku eateries and in 2004 started documenting their adventures on their online blog, www.yakiniquest.com. As niku not only translates to the word ‘beef’ but also the number 29 in Japanese, they decided to hold their yakiniku exploration gatherings on the 29th of each month – and with this commitment, conquered more than 150 yakiniku restaurants across Japan on an annual basis.
Till today, the legacy continues to live on and is further enlivened through the Singapore-based restaurant, which was named after the original website that gained widespread popularity over the years for its extensive insights on the art of yakiniku. Headed by Suguru Ishida and his wife Tomoko, Yakiniquest has delighted the palates of meat-lovers in Singapore ever since it first opened in 2014.
What started out as a quest to unearth the best yakiniku dining turns into a deep-rooted appreciation of the craft and that it should be no less undeserving to be considered on par with sushi or ramen to be represented as a ubiquitous Japanese cuisine. This passion inspired the husband-and-wife team and they envisioned to spread the power of yakiniku all around the world.
Through specially curated omakase menu options, the couple presented the pinnacles of their dining discoveries: from exquisitely marbled and oftentimes rare cuts of imported Japanese wagyu beef to masterful cutting and seasoning approaches paired with expertly grilling techniques timed to precision for the ultimate umami, “melt in your mouth” perfection.
Diners can now embark on their very own yakiniku-discovery journeys through lunch and dinner options served omakase (chef’s choice) style at the all-new Yakiniquest. Featuring only premium grades of Japanese wagyu beef, the menu has been planned and designed by founder-owner Suguru Ishida himself – a self-taught yakiniku expert whose experience is the culmination of his visits to over 2,000 yakiniku restaurants in Japan over the span of 15 years.
Yakiniquest is open Monday to Saturday - 12.00pm to 3.00pm (Lunch) | 6:00pm to 10.30pm (Dinner)
