The Long Bar at Raffles Hotel is one of the most famous bars in the world thanks to the Singapore Sling, which, depending on the creation myth you subscribe to, was invented there by Ngiam Tong Boon in the early 1900s.

The bar, which closed for renovation in 2017, has reopened following a revamp of it operations by Singapore-based Proof & Company. The cocktail that is so associated with the hotel has developed a bad reputation over the years; expect it to be restored – along with the rest of the hotel – to its former glory.

Say hello to the new Raffles Sling Shaker – custom-made for Raffles Singapore by Jason Crawley, one of Australia’s most respected bar professionals. This mechanical, hand-cranked machine is made of cast iron and is capable of shaking up to 18 Slings at a go. Visit the Long Bar to check it out and try your hand at cranking up your very own Singapore Sling.

Good news for travellers and those who like to tell tales! Raffles Hotel is finally getting back into business - re-opening in August 2019 after a long closure for extensive renovations - and we hear that the famous "Writers Bar" will be making a welcome return. More than just a bar-stool or two in the lobby!

Maybe it's got something to do with the appointment of Australia's top bartender Paul Hammond (formerly of Sydney’s award-winning Bulletin Place) to take charge of the hotel's beverage programme, along with his partner while Priscilla Leong (formerly of Sydney’s The Baxter Inn) is returning to her native Singapore and will oversee the drinks at the Long Bar.
