Putting on their best to showcase earlier this year with a 10th anniversary menu, Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse located on Mohamed Sultan Road designed a titillating surprise for diners.

As I was greeted at the entrance, I was especially thrilled to see the stylish interior design of this heritage Peranakan terrace. A quick glance at the menu which is running for the month of March. Wow! Four courses priced at $138++ plus a choice of beverage to start – Prosecco, white or red wine.

I pulled apart a small piece of focaccia just to taste. I so love bread especially at Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse where it was served with a tomato chutney of sorts. Conversation at the table was about how we fall into the trap of filling up on bread! Guess I was not the only one.

BisteccaThere were three options for Primi – Octopus, Scallops or Burrata all of which were beckoning. Tough choice! I went for Polipo, Freemantle octopus with Romesco, Cannelini bean puree and Gremolata. When the plate arrived it was so beautifully presented I felt bad to un-do what Chef had put together.

Octopus was grilled to perfection and Romesco was the most authentic I had ever had. Having watched the amazing My Octopus Teacher documentary on Netflix recently, I wondered if I was criminal in ordering this. Sigh! Would I ever buckle someday and become vegan? Nah I doubt it.

Peeking into what others had ordered I had a taste of pan-seared scallops with mint salsa verde, tomato jam and artichoke. Gosh! Another stunner. Well worth a try next time I was at Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse.

Typically these days, even though I totally love pasta, I tend to veer away from this carbo-filled offering, simply because of the dreaded effect it has on my waistline. On this day however, it was an excuse to have it. It was after all on the 4-course menu.

With two choices to pick from, I went for the Busiate, a beef and tomato ragu with red wine and pecorino. By the way I had enjoyed the Pinot Grigio served on arrival and promptly went on to try the Chianti. Deliciously paired with this pasta. I was in heaven.

So tender and flavorsome, the ragu was reduced after hours of slow cooking. It was an orgasmic moment to savour such top quality cooking. I had to have a bite of the Agnolotti. Japanese pumpkin, Mascarpone, Almond, Gorgonzola Piccante, this was also seriously amazing. The chef at Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse was certainly a magician. This was super fare!

A signature sharing steak, an exclusive F1 Wagyu, MBS6+ was served. Depending on number of pax at the table a different sized steak is served. For a table of four, we had 1.3kg of this perfectly grilled meat. Served with accompaniments to share, each of us at the table picked one.

There were fries, creamed spinach, wild mushrooms, broccolini, garlic mash, asparagus with béarnaise, Brussel sprouts with bacon and the infamous mac N cheese. I could imagine a toss-up at the table. What should we have? Everything went well with steak. Even something as simple as fries. Salted to perfection with a touch of herbs.

We were well satiated ready for dessert. My inclination was to go for the panna cotta served with blood orange, passion fruit, orange & cacao tuile. On asking the waiter for his recommendation he said tiramisu. Oh well why not? Tiramisu it is. Espresso, Mascarpone, dark rum and bitter chocolate dust, this was so light contrary to the heavy predecessors I had tried. So many levels of fine cuisine I thought. There were also sticky date pudding and black forest cake options.

My take on Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse is that it is for people who love a high end traditional Italian meal. My hand is up. I feel restaurants today try too hard to create fusion dishes in an effort to be different. Truly excited to have found Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse, I knew I would be back. It was too good to be true. Real Italian meals, every bit like what I experienced in Italy and just a 10 minute drive away.

What a fabulous weekday afternoon! Great food, service, company and ambience. Life’s good.
