Nothing hits the spot better than a cute little steaming hot, melt-in-your-mouth dumpling stuffed with a myriad flavours and textures reminiscent of modest hawker stalls in China. Thankfully, you won’t need to go to China to experience the culinary delight that is xiao long bao.

Expat Choice compiles a list of some go-to places in Singapore if you want to treat your taste buds to pockets of stuffed minced pork, laksa and black truffle. Keep reading to find out some hot favourite places in The Lion City. Each xiao long bao is steamed fresh waiting to be gobbled up. Image Credit: food.com

Hong Peng La Mian Xiao Long Bao

This is the not-so-modest one on the list. A Michelin recommended eatery situated unassumingly in People Park Complex Food Centre, this hawker stall is most famous for the size of its dumplings. Don’t worry! The texture of these dumplings is still silky smooth and they’re as flavourful as ever. Moreover, that’s not all they serve here. If you’re not in the mood for Xiao Long Bao, you can just as easily call for pan fried jiao zi, the signature la mian which goes perfectly well with xiao long bao or go for the slightly healthier option with porridge. No matter what you order, you won’t be disappointed. Image Credit: Danielfooddiary.com

Supreme La Mian Xiao Long Bao

Supreme La Mian Xiao Long Bao

Housed in the vicinity of Holland Drive, Supreme La Mian Xiao Long Bao is an understated Kopitiam stall which boasts only of chef/owner Li Huaizhi’s skill behind the kitchen counter. While the restaurant has a lot of options to offer, the showstopper is the xiao long bao (no surprises there)! The dumplings come packed neatly with copious amounts of minced pork stuffed with piquant scallion oil, sesame oil and soy sauce. That being said, the honour of the showstopper is shared by the xiao long bao and the la mian. As the name of the restaurant suggests, paper thin handmade noodles crafted beautifully by the chef himself are best enjoyed with the xiao long bao. Image Credit: Supreme Xiao Long Bao Facebook Pagemisstamchiak.com

This really has to be my favourite snack in Singapore. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to Asian cuisine but these little dumplings do it for me every time - now I'll have to tick each one of these off the list.
