Bar-Roque Grill

Bar-Roque Grill

This is a fabulous Sunday Brunch option. Having tasted the fare at Bar-Roque a number of times, I would say the house specialty must be highlighted in their aged meats. Much of the fare is made in-house from meats dry aged, through to terrines, rillettes, cottage cheese - which is divine - to the house charcuterie.  Some cheeses are matured in house where fresh milk is obtained locally, from goat and cow farms, then pasteurised. Organic pork is imported from Australia but there are also beef and lamb sausages as options. With all types of sausages on offer – smoked and dried, this array of charcuterie is full of flavour. A warm basket of freshly baked Madeleines with Nutella and raspberry sauces top of the menu. We don’t need to go to France to enjoy such delightful treats. For $14 - the eight madeleines served are top value.

It is pretty obvious when you visit Lerouy that it is a Michelin star restaurant. Awarded in 2019 this amazing restaurant is positioned unassumingly on Amoy Street. What a different world though when you step in. My first impression was the sexy wave bar that meandered around the restaurant, boasting an open concept that showed off every chef in their specialised role.

The quiet, deeply thoughtful crew were hard at work creating exquisite minute details that would eventually make all the difference. Every dish that was presented appeared visually stunning to the eye and savoured as soon as it hit my palette. Chef and owner Lerouy was ever present, making his appearance in the kitchen feel like everything was streamlined, working to clockwork precision.

How does one score a Michelin star? Not easily I don't think! For the dedication, artistry and food specialist one has to be, is set aside for only the best who make it to this upper echelon of elites. Every mouthful was a treat unto itself.

While it may have seemed that the Petite Menu served at lunch was a mere 3-course, each course was served had 3-4 delights presented in unusual ways. A ham stock in smoked oil hit the table in a test tube. Incidentally that took me back to my lab days when I was in secondary school mixing chemicals to observe reactions.

Today however was different. I removed the cork that sealed this test tube and emptied the stock down my throat. Not a very lady-like gesture at a Michelin restaurant I have to say but the amazing depth of flavour that I savoured after was well worth it.

My pick of the day was the main - Guinea fowl and mushroom served on a jus that was too good to be true. Throwing caution to the wind I dared to ask for another loaf of dark sourdough, broke a piece off it and wiped every bit of jus off the plate. What outstanding flavours in one dish! I could just imagine the work that would have gone into this one dish behind the scenes.

Lerouy is a modern restaurant serving French cuisine. Having been awarded a one Michelin star in 2019, it is obvious that this restaurant is second to none. Serving omakase set lunches and dinners at $98++ and $198++ respectively, be prepared to have a meal of a lifetime.

Every bite will be remembered. Every moment will be savoured.
