Marina Barrage

Enjoy green space galore at Marina Barrage – the dam with a park on its rooftop.  Best in the early evenings as shade is limited, the large lawns are perfect for picnics and for kids with kites.  Water babies can cool off in the children’s water play area, whilst mama snaps a pic of the impressive Marina Bay skyline. Singapore Canoe Federation has a range of programmes for wannabe kayakers, including a Kayaking Orientation course (for absolute beginners) and multi-level kayaking courses for more advanced paddlers. Classes are generally held at either MacRitchie Reservoir or Kallang Water Sports Centre.  The Singapore Canoe Federation is the National Sports Association responsible for the management, coordination, development and promotion of canoeing in Singapore. If you are keen to try something a little different, pack up the kiddies early and head to Marina South Pier to catch the ferry to St. John’s Island. A mere 6.5km south of S’pore, this tiny island is home to sandy beaches and many a winding walking track.  Bring the sand toys too so junior can build sandcastles whilst you sip on your wine water. Jurong Bird Park

Jurong Bird Park is an aviary and tourist attraction in Jurong, Singapore. The bird park, managed by Wildlife Reserves Singapore, covers an area of 0.2 square kilometres on the western slope of Jurong Hill, the highest point in the Jurong region. Opened in 1971, Jurong Bird Park is the largest bird park in the world, offering a 20.2-hectare hillside haven for 8,000 birds representing 600 species. Its Heliconia Repository, with 108 heliconia species and cultivars in its collection, is one of the largest in the region. With key attractions such as the Bird Discovery Centre, African Waterfall Aviary, Lory Loft Aviary, Southeast Asian Birds Aviary and the award-winning African Wetlands, the Bird Park attracted close to 900,000 visitors in 2008.
