6 Safe & Effective Treatments to Keep You Looking Youthful

Published - 01 February 2021, Monday

The field of aesthetic, or cosmetic medicine, is one that is continually growing and evolving; resulting in more natural results with little or no down time.

Dr. Komathy Rajaratnam, one of Singapore’s leading doctors in the field of aesthetic medicine and dermatology – and a graduate of the National University of Singapore – has an in depth understanding of each person’s needs, and focuses strongly on both the quality and safety of the procedure; as well as the end result being a natural look.

Here are 6 of Dr. Komathy’s most popular aesthetic treatments:

SAGGING AND WRINKLES

There are several treatment options for this, including:

Botox:

Botox essentially works as a neurotransmitter blocker, blocking the signals given for specific muscles to contract. The muscles that have been affected by Botox relax; which ultimately results in a younger, softer look as wrinkles fade or disappear altogether.

Some people may be hesitant to try Botox, having perhaps seen one too many examples of a Botox-frozen face; but, with an experienced and skilled injector, your face will retain its natural mobility & expression.

Fillers:

Commonly called a “liquid face lift”, fillers contain hyaluronic acid. They lift sagging tissue by filling out lost volume in the jawline, cheeks, and under the eyes. Micro injections of hyaluronic acid called “skin boosters” reduce wrinkles and help give the skin a dewy look.

Radiofrequency Treatment:

Thermage is the most famous skin tightening treatment. It’s extremely effective in tightening skin, and only needs to be done once a year.

Laser Treatments:

Fractional laser, as well as long pulse YAG laser, is used to stimulate collagen and smoothen out lines.

Silhouette Thread Lift:

Jowls can be difficult to treat. A thread lift is a novel way of tightening the lower half of the face; lifting the jowls to achieve a sharper jawline, and the V-shaped look. Silhouette threads are safe and effective.

DARK CIRCLES

Dark circles under your eyes could be caused by a number of factors – an increase in melanin, excessive exposure to the sun, thyroid or kidney disease – and the list goes on. However, the most common cause of dark circles is simply genetics.

Hyperpigmentaion in dark circles can be treated with medicated lightening creams as well as chemical peels that not only lighten the skin, but rejuvenate the eye area. Dark circles are commonly associated with depression under the eyes, which can only be corrected by eye fillers.

FILLERS

As we age, we naturally lose collagen as well as fat in our skin, resulting in skin that is sagging or wrinkled. The loss of this fat can make the face look hollow – especially in the eye or cheek area, which gives the face a sad or tired look.

The solution is to volumise the skin through fillers which contain hyaluronic acid.

These fillers don’t just fill out lines, but also soften naso-labial lines (the line that runs from the side of your nose down to the mouth), the naso jugal fold (sagging underneath your eyes) and marionette lines (lines on the sides of the mouth).

Strategic volumisation can also be used to lift the jowls. Filler treatments replace the lost volume in the skin, and produce immediate results by lifting and contouring. Micro injections of hyaluronic acid reduce wrinkles, resulting in dewy skin.

PIGMENTATION

Pigmentation comes in various forms, and is most commonly seen as freckles, sun spots and melasma. Freckles and sunspots are easily removed, using an IPL or Q- switch laser. The most common cause of pigmentation in people over 40 is melasma.

Melasma appears as a dark patch over the cheeks, forehead or upper lips. It can be difficult to treat, depending on how deep it is, but there are several very effective treatments; the most effective being a combination of lightening creams and chemical peels.

V- FACIAL SLIMMING

If you want to change the shape of your face by slimming it down, V-facial slimming is a non-surgical procedure that combines Botox injections, chin augmentation and radiofrequency (RF) treatment.

Together, these treatments work to shrink the masseter muscles, lengthen the face and reduce fat in the chin, lower cheeks & jawline, resulting in a slimmer and more contoured face.

Alternatively, you could opt for the Silhouette Soft Thread Lift, which slims and tightens the face, neck and jawline, non-surgically, giving you the slim, V-shaped look.
