After a decade-long absence from Asia, one of the world's most enigmatic dining experiences is returning to Singapore. Dîner en Blanc, the legendary pop-up picnic where thousands gather in pristine white attire at a secret location revealed only hours before, will grace the Lion City once again on September 6th, 2025.

Originally conceived in Paris in 1988, this extraordinary event has captivated cities across the globe with its blend of mystery, elegance, and communal dining. Guests arrive with their own tables, chairs, and gourmet meals, transforming an undisclosed urban location into a sea of white that exists for just one magical evening before vanishing without a trace. Singapore last hosted this coveted gathering in the 2010s, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable memories and years of anticipation for its return.

Now, under the stewardship of Chiang Yee—the youngest host ever appointed by founder Sandy Safi after an exhaustive global search—Dîner en Blanc Singapore is poised to write a new chapter. With 3,000 guests expected and a groundbreaking partnership with Moët & Chandon, this isn't simply a revival; it's a reimagining of luxury dining for a new generation.

Chiang Yee

We spoke with Chiang Yee about bringing this iconic tradition back to life, the challenges of orchestrating such an ambitious event, and what makes this moment perfect for Dîner en Blanc's grand return to Asia.

You're the youngest host ever appointed by founder Sandy Safi after a rigorous global search. What was that selection process like, and what do you think convinced her that you were the right person to bring this iconic event back to Singapore after a decade?

The process was intense. It took about three months of back-and-forth conversations, proposals, and vision-sharing before I was officially appointed as Host for Singapore. I think what convinced Sandy was my unwavering passion to bring this iconic event back to life in Asia. Dîner en Blanc hasn't made an appearance in the region for many years, and I was overflowing with energy to reignite that spark. Securing a partnership with Moët & Chandon early on also showed her I was serious about elevating the experience and that this wasn't just an idea, it was a commitment to excellence.

You've said "We're not repeating history, we're writing a new one." What does that mean for someone who might have attended the original Singapore events in the 2010s? How will this feel both familiar and completely fresh?

I didn't attend the earlier Singapore editions. I was too young then, and the event has always been 18+ ONLY. I've studied the tradition deeply, and we're keeping the essence intact. Elegance, mystery, and that shared sense of community. What will feel fresh are the unique touchpoints we're designing for the day, from the way guests arrive, to interactive experiences that reflect today's Singapore. It's the same heartbeat, but with a new rhythm.

Singapore's experiential luxury market grew 17% in 2024 alone. What is it about this particular moment that makes it perfect for Dîner en Blanc's return? What are Singaporeans craving that this event uniquely provides?

Singaporeans are craving meaningful luxury that are not just material things, but experiences that feel rare, shared, and memorable. Dîner en Blanc offers exactly that. A once-a-year gathering that blends artistry, elegance, and mystery in a way nothing else does. In a world where almost everything is accessible with a click, the allure of anticipation and discovery is irresistible :)

Walk us through what guests can expect on September 6th. From the moment they receive their secret location to that final toast - what's the emotional journey you're crafting?

The morning of the event, guests will receive instructions for their departure point. From there, they'll travel together by MRT this year to the secret location. The journey itself builds suspense, and when they arrive, 3,000 people dressed in white transform the space into a living work of art. There's a collective gasp as tables are set, champagne corks pop, and the evening unfolds with music, performances and shared toasts. The final moments will include sparklers in hand under the stars. Pure magic. It's a rollercoaster of anticipation, wonder, and connection.

The partnership with Moët & Chandon is a world first for Dîner en Blanc. How are you weaving their champagne into the storytelling of the evening? What will these "bespoke touches" look and feel like?

Moët & Chandon isn't just a beverage partner, they're part of the story. From the first pop of the cork at the opening toast to curated champagne moments throughout the night, their presence will be woven into the experience. Think elegant champagne bottles, sparkling photo moments and a grand finale that brings everyone together with a Moët toast under a canopy of sparklers.

Dîner en Blanc Singapore Makes Its Grand Comeback

Keeping a secret location under wraps until hours before the event, coordinating 3,000 guests all in white, managing the mystery - what's the biggest logistical challenge you're facing, and how are you solving it?

The scale and secrecy are the biggest challenges. Everything from transport coordination to food service has to work perfectly without revealing the location prematurely. We're solving this with meticulous planning, multiple contingency routes and a team trained to execute with precision. Communication is timed to the minute so guests feel guided, not lost.

You're working alongside Dr Clemen Chiang, who originally brought Dîner en Blanc to Asia in 2012. What wisdom has he shared with you, and where are you charting your own course?

Dr Clemen taught me that while logistics are important, the real magic is in creating moments guests will talk about for years. From him, I've learned the importance of balancing tradition with bold creativity. Where I'm charting my own course is in embracing technology, storytelling, and luxury partnerships that resonate with a new generation of diners.

The event is described as transforming guests into "part of a living tableau." For someone who's never experienced Dîner en Blanc, how do you explain this transformation that happens when 3,000 strangers in white gather in one space?

It's like stepping into a dream you didn't know you were part of. The moment everyone sits down in perfect rows, white linens fluttering, candles flickering, and conversations buzzing, you realise you're not just attending an event, you're a brushstroke in a giant living painting. The transformation happens because everyone commits to the vision, and that unity turns strangers into a community.

This event sells out in minutes globally and creates intense FOMO. Beyond the exclusivity, what do you hope people who attend will take away from this one night? What's the lasting impact?

I hope guests leave feeling they've been part of something bigger than themselves, a shared story that can't be replicated. It's about beauty, connection, and the thrill of the unexpected. Long after the night ends, I want them to remember the feeling of looking around and thinking, "We were here. We made this moment." Dîner en Blanc Singapore, a core memory that they will never forget in their lives.

Dîner en Blanc Singapore Makes Its Grand Comeback

If this September event is successful, what's your vision for Dîner en Blanc's future in Singapore and the region? Are we looking at the birth of a new tradition?

Absolutely. My vision is for Singapore to be a shining star in the Dîner en Blanc Asian calendar, an event guests around the world aspire to attend. From here, I'd love to see it expand into other Asian cities, creating a regional circuit where each edition offers its own cultural flair while staying true to the spirit of the tradition.

As Chiang Yee's vision comes to life on September 6th, Singapore has the rare opportunity to witness the rebirth of one of the world's most coveted dining experiences. For those ready to dress in white, embrace the mystery, and become part of a living masterpiece, tickets are now available. With Dîner en Blanc events selling out globally within minutes, this is more than just a dinner invitation—it's a chance to step into history, create unforgettable memories, and join an exclusive community that spans continents. Don't just witness the magic; become part of it. Secure your place at what promises to be Singapore's most extraordinary evening of the year.
