Published - 29 January 2023, Sunday

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney opened its doors in the heart of Sydney’s bustling Central Business District on No. 1 Martin Place on Friday, 18 October 2019. This heralds the first international expansion of homegrown brand, The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts; the brand that is central to The Fullerton Heritage—the world-class waterfront precinct by the enchanting Marina Bay in Singapore.

Housed in the iconic former General Post Office building, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is steeped in history and character. The Fullerton Hotel Sydney provides guests and visitors with signature Fullerton hospitality as they create their own memories, while showcasing the beauty and heritage of the Grand Dame to a wider audience nationally and globally.

From immersive heritage tours and cross-cultural cuisines to unique Fullerton touches that are introduced in each guest room, guests can look forward to an elevated stay in the newly transformed Hotel.

Known as the city’s rendezvous location, where Sydneysiders dressed to the nines to meet beneath the GPO clock completed in the mid-20th century, the building commands a prominent social and physical position in the city.

Escape into the heart of Sydney with a perfect getaway for two and enjoy a *dining credit worth A$100 (check website for up-to-date details).

A perfect meeting place, The Bar is also located in the hotel lobby and is perfect for a signature Afternoon Tea, served daily from 12.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. daily.

Hotel guests and the general public can also explore the building’s vibrant history, dating back to 1874 through complimentary heritage tours.

Docents share fascinating stories of those who have worked at the GPO building, which has connected Sydney to the wider world through letters, telegrams and the lively phone exchange.

The 90-minute heritage tours will showcase the intricate stonework and reveal little-known facts of bygone years, including the once controversial Pitt Street carvings that depict the city’s early life and caused a public outcry upon their reveal.

The carvings feature the Postmaster General flirtatiously delivering a letter to a barmaid, an astronomer marking Sydney’s position on a globe, a young architect drafting a building, and a digger happily pointing to a chunk of quartz and gold.

Exclusive tours of The Fullerton Hotel Sydney for hotel guests run on Fridays and Saturdays at 10a.m., while members of the public are invited to join the tours on Fridays and Saturdays at 11.45a.m.

Each session can accommodate 15 guests to ensure a personalised experience and bookings are advised through the Hotel concierge or via [email protected]
