Weekend Getaway at Wickens at Royal Mail Hotel

Published - 23 November 2021, Tuesday

Wickens at Royal Mail Hotel is a fine-dining experience, encompassing the four stories of the hotel – food, wine, people and place. They serve a Chefs Tasting menu which frequently changes, as it is dictated by produce harvested daily from their kitchen garden.

Wickens

Food – Experience the inspired degustation menus, created by Executive Chef Robin Wickens. Each menu utilises the season’s available produce grown meters away in the hotel’s 1.2-hectare kitchen garden.

Wine – The world-class wine list showcases bottles from the impressive 25,000 bottle wine cellar. Three types of wine matches are led by our sommeliers – cellar, iconic Australian and French.

People – The kitchen is set like a stage, with all of the dining tables facing the kitchen and the team at work. If that is not close enough, located within the kitchen there is a Chef’s Table available for up to four people. Additionally, groups of up to 14 have access to the private dining room.

Place – Taking advantage of the spectacular views of the southern Gariwerd (Grampians National Park), the striking restaurant has floor to ceiling vistas overlooking Wurgarri (Mount Sturgeon) and Mud-Dadjug (Mount Abrupt). The restaurant was designed with ambience and local materials in mind. Video Credit: Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld Image Credit: Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld

Judy Timoshanko recommends Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld

Stayed at Mt Sturgeon cottages which is pet friendly, and delightful with no TV, wifi or phone, very peaceful. Only 3k back to the main building which they will organize a transfer for you. Very comfortable bed, and good shower. Room has a microwave. Friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant Wickens at the hotel is a must do, which i would rate as one of the best I have been to in Australia 10/10!
