Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Published - 28 June 2020, Sunday

Experience nature in its pristine form at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, which is a mere 12 km from the bustling city centre.

This 163-ha reserve includes Singapore’s highest hill, Bukit Timah Hill, which stands at 163 m and retains one of the few areas of primary rainforest in the country.

The Reserve was reopened in October 2016 following the completion of restoration works carried out from September 2014 to October 2016.

We’re sure you must’ve heard of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and how serene it is to be there.

But did you know, you could explore a high percentage of Singapore’s native flora and fauna just walking down this lush area? Stroll amidst pretty sights of Shorea curtisii and Red Dhup as you spot critters like Sunda Pangolin, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, and Malayan Colugo.

You can go on the adventurous mountain biking trail once you’re here or hike up to 163 metres of the Bukit Timah Hill. The trail is fairly easy and you can do it by yourself but it is best enjoyed with a hiking group.

Just a few kilometers from the hubbub of the city centre lies the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, a sprawling 163-hectare area with an eclectic variety of plants, animals, and insects. It’s also home to Singapore’s highest hill, the Bukit Timah Hill.

You can choose to follow moderate, medium, or steep paths to get up the hill, depending on how much experience you have as a hiker.

Pro-tip, make sure to stock up on water and mosquito repellant.

This is a gem! What a peaceful way to "get away" from the city. You really don't feel as though you are in Singapore anymore. There are different paths to take, depending on how difficult you want it to be. When we were there, we met a group of monkeys. We just let them do their thing, and they didn't bother us. Adorable.

An ideal place to learn about nature and socialising with friends and family. And it's free! Worth visiting again

This is such a beautiful place to get away from it all! Even though it's still in Singapore, it doesn't feel like it is. A great place to go with friends or visitors. The paths are easy to navigate and its not a high intensity walk. TAKE MOSQUITO REPELLANT! Last time we went my friend got bitten heaps.
