The Singapore Swimming Club (SSC) which was founded on February 7, 1894, by a group of young European men who happened upon a gorgeous swimming and relaxing area on a sandbank close to Tanjong Katong beach along East Coast is attracting expatriates and Singaporeans with some of the best club membership deals in Singapore.

Since the turn of the century, SSC has developed into an exclusive members-only recreational club and has developed a broad membership base no longer just made up of Europeans. The club has expanded to take up more than 30,000 square metres in the wealthy Tanjong Rhu district.

In 1963, then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew issued a directive to all British clubs that they could no longer stick to their “white only” rule, and the SSC accordingly began admitting Asian members. By 1969, the decline in membership since 1955 had begun to reverse, with an increasing number of locals joining the club along with expatriates who lived and worked in Singapore in the early 70s.

Dive into the Good Life at the Singapore Swimming Club!

Are you looking for an exclusive spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy serious fun? Introducing the Singapore Swimming Club (SSC). It's not just a club; it's a lifestyle and community and will quickly become your new favourite place away from home. Don't worry if you're new to the city or country. The Club is an excellent place for locals and expats, offering a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. I had a tour of the facilities recently and was blown away by the size and facilities offered by the Club.  Imagine this. An oasis in the Tanjong Rhu precinct and minutes from the city centre, with 30,000 square meters of lush, landscaped gardens. This is the Singapore Swimming Club, the largest non-golfing recreational club in the country, and it's been welcoming folks like you since 1894.

Are you feeling sporty? You'll be spoiled for choice here. They've got badminton and tennis courts, table tennis, squash courts, billiards rooms with regulation-size tables, a gym, and even a 10-lane bowling alley. And that's not all. You'll be pleased that the Club constantly evolves to meet its members' needs. With upcoming futsal, cricket, and archery facilities, it's clear that the Club is always looking to enhance its experiences. Did I mention the two 50-meter swimming pools and kids' learning pools? What would a swimming club be without swimming pools?

Here's something I didn't know. The club is a culinary heaven with 11 F&B outlets catering to every palate. You can enjoy everything from casual snacks to fine international dining. Try the local fare at 'The Palms', or for some Western cuisine, head to 'Jackson Miller', where you can indulge in wine tasting and fine dining. 'The Jade Phoenix Restaurant' is your spot for some Asian flavours, and don't miss the 'Poolside Cafe' for refreshing drinks and bites.

The Singapore Swimming Club is all about family. They regularly organise recreational and social activities suitable for members of all ages, from music workshops, Bollyfit classes, coding classes for children, and self-defence classes. If self-care is your priority, the Edes Spa provides a magic space for relaxation and rejuvenation. The Hairven salon offers a range of services for both ladies and men, including haircuts, wash and blow-dry, perming, colouring and various treatments. The Ben Sports Therapy Center is there to soothe your muscles after a day of activities, and if you feel like pampering yourself, the Lacbar mani/pedi station is just around the corner.

Need to host a big event? The ballroom can cater to up to 400 people. They also offer breakout rooms for corporate team-building and off-site meeting activities. You can use the co-working space if you need to finish some work. The co-working space is ideal to get some work done without straying too far from leisure. Comfortable, quiet, and equipped with all the necessary amenities, it's a workspace that doesn't feel like one.

Some facilities are open to non-members, but joining the club’s 13,000 members gives you access to everything the club has to offer. Need to find out more? Then meet Micky Foo, SSC’s friendly Business Development Manager. He's on a mission to attract more members and has various membership options for locals and expats, from corporate to family to term memberships. The professional staff at each facility is dedicated to making your time at the Club an absolute pleasure. They are the heart of the Club, always ready to assist and enhance your experience.

Make the Singapore Swimming Club your new go-to destination. It's a place that enhances your life and adds to your happiness. It's a place that you can call your second home.

Singapore Swimming Club, founded in 1894 and located at Tanjong Rhu is an iconic club well known to East Coast residents. Sprawled over more than 30,000 square meters, it boasts eleven F&B outlets, two Olympic-sized swimming pools and thirteen sporting facilities.

While Singapore Swimming Club is pre-dominantly a private members’ club it does allow non-members use of some of its facilities. D’Galaxy, the Karaoke Lounge caught my attention. A minimum spend of $1,500 including food and beverage, this space could double up as a great corporate venue with breakout rooms.

To kick start an event, the opening address with bar and comfortable seats could then see mini group discussions veer off to smaller enclaves. Very affordable for a team of fifty at $30 per head. I would highly recommend this to corporates especially if in search of a creative space, away from the usual nondescript room that trainings are usually held at.

Another space I felt that was worthy of booking for a private event was D’Tanjong where a lovely pub setting comes even more alive to tunes belted out by a live band. Choose to do an off-peak night where lull periods exist or get in touch with the Club to ascertain a night that is available Monday to Thursday.

I could visualize people chilling at the historic bar that has served many members over the years while others sink into arm chairs, the more comfortable option. This large space accommodates a whopping one hundred and fifty people.

Of course there are function rooms too, four to be exact, that take a cozy thirty guests to larger ones that could hold four hundred. Over the years I have been to these function rooms for weddings, birthdays and many other celebrations, all of which were made even more memorable with top quality food served.

Singapore Swimming Club has been the rave for years when it comes to food and beverage. From coffee house to Chinese and Western, there are so many opportunities to kick back and relax anytime any day. Whether chilling at the café watching swimmers race to the finish line or enjoying a casual outdoor drink on a Friday night, there are events happening at every outlet.

Why join a club? I guess my answer would be to meet people outside the normal purview of your daily routine. Clubs also double up as a convenient place to have a meal when time is of essence and you are rushed off your feet.

I love clubs for the activities they provide. Whether to catch a daily swim or play a quick game of squash, these give members an opportunity to chill, get their exercise fix or have a meal.

A point to note for those not in Singapore for the long, is that term memberships are available on an annual basis. Why not? A home away from home is where the heart finds solace, enjoyment and connection.
