Australia's Finest Cast Unites for West Side Story Rehearsals on Sydney Harbour

Cast members from throughout Australia and one from the United States have begun rehearsals for the highly anticipated return of West Side Story to Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. The play, which will reopen on Friday, March 22, promises to be a highlight of Sydney's cultural calendar, attracting spectators from all around.

The varied group, led by Associate Director Eric Sean Fogel, Revival Choreographer Kiira Schmidt Carper, and Musical Director Guy Simpson, is preparing for intensive rehearsals. With actors from Mount Gambier to Melbourne and Alice Springs to Adelaide, the play has a truly national and international flavour.

The dynamic and complex choreography of West Side Story requires the utmost expertise from its performers, especially those who play the competing street gangs, the Sharks and the Jets. The production's acclaimed ensemble promises thrilling performances, reviving this iconic Broadway musical.

West Side Story Rehearsals Commence

Among the noteworthy performers are First Nations singer Nina Korbe as Maria and Canberran Billy Bourchier as Tony. They are joined by experienced performers such as Patrick Whitbread as Riff and Kimberley Hodgson as Anita, who recently appeared in Opera Australia's Miss Saigon. Broadway star Manuel Stark Santos will make his Australian debut as Bernardo, adding to the enthusiasm surrounding the performance.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
