Armenian Street Party returns this March for a four-week run, honouring Peranakan food and culture. The eighth edition of the festival, called "Armenian Street Party: Peranakan Pasar," promises to immerse guests in the rich tradition of Peranakan communities. The festival, which is part of the Peranakan Museum's annual schedule of events, will run from March 8 to March 31, 2024, and will include a variety of activities, workshops, and culinary experiences.

Mr. Kennie Ting, Director of Peranakan Museum, is excited to host another Armenian Street Party, emphasising the festival's theme of rediscovering Peranakan heritage via feasting and shopping. The event intends to establish Armenian Street as a destination for craft, design, artisanship, and makers. This year's festival, which will be held in collaboration with a variety of community partners, aims to provide a mix of traditional and contemporary Peranakan experiences.

Armenian Street will come to life with a night market, art displays, and the first project map. Visitors can visit the Peranakan Museum's galleries on origins, ceramics, and food culture, which are supplemented with colourful displays and activities on the street. Yip Yew Chong, a renowned Singaporean artist, will unveil his digital animation and projection mapping piece, "Mari Kita Makan," which will illuminate the facade with mesmerising Peranakan storytelling.

In-Kueh-Dibles

The festival's features include larger-than-life inflatable Peranakan kuehs, participatory performances, cooking demos, and a display of kitchenware and antiques. Festival-goers can consume their favourite Peranakan snacks and dishes while dancing to the music of the Peranakan afterparty.

For those looking for a deeper immersion in Peranakan culture, the festival provides one-of-a-kind events such as "Tok Panjang: A Communal Dining Experience." This communal supper comprises a tailored halal-friendly menu, Peranakan dance and music performances, as well as antique dinnerware and kitchen equipment.

Armenian Street Party Spice Gallery Tours with NParks

New collaborations between the Peranakan Museum and Peranakan communities promise unique experiences, such as guided Spice Gallery Tours and hands-on workshops. Visitors can participate with Peranakan culture in a variety of ways, including exploring botanical gems and making mini-batik.

The Armenian Street Party: Peranakan Pasar will take place from March 8 to March 31, 2024. While admission to the festival is free, several programmes and activities do require pre-registration. Please visit the official website of the Peranakan Museum for more information and to register.
