I don't think many are connecting the dots between the pandemic and the climate catastrophe we are facing. But they are deeply connected.

This pandemic is, quite simply, the consequence of greed and willful disregard by politicians and business leaders – across multiple levels. Want to blame China for this pandemic? We are all responsible for this.

Where the pandemic started is almost irrelevant – because it was always going to happen - somewhere. Our abuse of nature is what created this pandemic. And the West can't wash it hands either. The US's industrialized meat farming facilities supply more than 90 percent of meat globally, and we are eating more meat than at any time in history.

The animals we eat are tightly packed together and live under harsh and unsanitary conditions.

The animals are: "Packed beak to beak or snout to snout, and there’s stress crippling their immune systems. And there’s ammonia from the decomposing waste burning their lungs, and there’s a lack of fresh air and sunlight. When you put all these factors together, you have a perfect-storm environment for the emergence and spread of disease,"

Taking action on the wild life trade is critical but not simple.

First is a need for global education in every corner of our world. People on the front line of this trade do not have a global mindset. They do not see the bigger picture of their impact.

The leaders of this trade know. The ones making real money. Education is always critical if we want to make changes, it always has been. But change has to happen at grass roots. If we make it illegal, it will continue, but be even more macabre, as it will exist "under ground".

Another opportunity is using our economic power to demand an end to the wild life trade. We now see the folly of total supply chain reliance on China following this pandemic. But we had a chance to stop the wild life trade long ago – when SARS hit. Why didn't we insist back then?

Money, money, money, and power. The illegal wildlife trade is a $23+ billion industry. It’s an insidious trade along with drugs, weapons and human trafficking. Did you know that 90% of animals trafficked die in transit? Appalling!!

And the illegal wildlife trade is not just a China issue. These markets are all over the world. I've visited many and it is a depressing thing to witness.

We, all of us, have sat by as 60% of wildlife populations were wiped our since 1970 (WWF report) - the year I was born. We have wiped out 60% of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles since 1970.

This has lead the world’s foremost experts warning that the annihilation of wildlife is now an emergency that threatens civilization.

The cause of this pandemic is a significant part of the climate crisis we face, and now scientists are warning of abrupt ecosystem collapse being imminent as well. No country is prepared for the consequences of collapsing ecosystems and we are not doing anything to avert it.

The current reality of coral reefs is a clear warning about the future of the climate crisis. The Great Barrier Reef is in the midst of its third mass-bleaching event in the last five years.

And this bleaching is more severe than the previous two, with 25 percent of the reefs experiencing widespread bleaching. If coral reefs collapse, sea life collapse will follow, as well as food sources for millions of people. This will create millions of climate refugees. Will your country take them?

Close to 50 percent of the world’s coral has died in the last 30 years. Climate change is the reason.

“Even if we stopped emitting CO2 today, the ocean would still get warmer for 30 to 40 years,” Stephen Palumbi, coral researcher and professor of biology, Stanford University.

However, not seeing benefits immediately is not a reason to not act. If we do not get to experience the benefits of change ourselves, we must do it for future generations. Besides, according to this article, significant devastation will happen before 2030.

Everyone monitoring the climate crisis knew it was going to happen sooner - in our lifetimes. It's happening and this pandemic is the start of worse to come. That’s why we have no time to lose! None. This is our chance. It is time to act. Or we do not have a future.

Depressing? Yes! But the state of our world is depressing. We must unite as a global community and create anew, or there will be no future.

Start understanding this. If you know people (like me) that are constantly sharing views on the climate crisis, it's because we are going deep and hard on acquiring knowledge. I don't have time for deniers. But I do have time for people open to investing their time in learning about this.

I beg you. We must face this crisis, while facing the pandemic too. This is our last chance before major devastation hits, impacting millions and millions around the globe xxxxxxx
