Former Senator and House of Representatives member Anna Dominique "Nikki" Coseteng, who served as the Philippines Senator from 1992-2001, has recently transitioned her career path into fashion and launched her bespoke Kaftan line titled "Kaftan One by Nikki Coseteng"
An avid traveler and a fine art enthusiast, she developed an extensive fabric collection. Each Kaftan evokes a tale from all artisans, weavers, and indigenous tribes she met during her travels, making each kaftan piece unique.
During the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, she sketched and designed kaftans to wear.
Recognizing the former politician's strong family background in arts and culture, Nikki's enthusiasm for effortless and elegant dressing is innate to her, and her love for textiles was the pillar of her design inspiration. For Nikki's friends, it is no secret that she is creative and stylish. Hence, she curated 40 versatile ready-to-wear kaftans for them to try. Popular demand and word-of-mouth turned this passion into a reality, and Kaftan One was born.
"A Kaftan For Every Woman," Kaftan One empowers every woman who wears it, carrying the rich history of every kaftan's fabric origin. The materials are meticulously hand-sourced from all of Nikki's travel destinations around the world, including exotic parts of her hometown, the Philippines. Expect hand-woven and hard-to-find textiles from the North of the Philippines in the Cordillera region: Ilocos, Abra, all the way down to the south from the Yakans of Basilan, Taosugs of Sulu in Mindanao. Some patterns are hand-drawn, hand-woven and hand-printed by the artisans using a natural die applying traditional techniques to produce the finest-grade batik. There are beautifully patterned silks and the finest cotton materials locally sourced from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia, China, Korea, South Africa, and Dubai, to name a few.
