I met Jade Lama and Martin Ostlind back in 2009, the first time our family attempted to live in Phuket. In those days, Taste Bar & Grill was on the beach in Surin, and hubby Steve and I had a weekly booking. How can you beat dinner with sand between your toes and the best Gambas Pil Pil in the world!!!!
Since then, Jade and Martin have built an amazing business in the last decade, featuring two locations in Bangtao and Yamu, but like all businesses, the pandemic has been brutal! What do they do? They innovate.
First they set up the food stall at Hugo Hut (there every night, except Monday and Tuesday), which is awesome. Very chilled vibe. And now, their new brand Taste ‘Hideaway,’ at the southern end of Surin Beach, right next to the ocean and just a few hundred meters from the original Taste we loved so much.
It’s a beautiful setting, designed to perfection, and it’s an intimate experience too. Only 18-20 seats each night, and you must book and pay in advance, which means you can just relax and enjoy the evening.
The best way to keep up to date with Taste Hideaway is to follow the Taste Bar and Grill Facebook page, or the new Taste Hideaway page, where they update the menu of the week, as well as share when they are open.
Definite nights to be open are Thursday and Saturday, with additional nights added for group bookings.
With the weather set to turn in the coming weeks, don’t delay booking at Taste Hideaway. It truly is a magical place, right by the ocean, and their business is also helping Patcharin Seafood, a Thai-owned restaurant equally impacted by the economic crisis, so it’s a double contribution.
