Juliette van der Burgt says Shabestan Singapore is Date Night Worthy. Why?

They say the true meaning of Valentine’s is a feast day honouring Saint Valentine. But through later traditions, it has become a cultural and commercial celebration of romance and love in many parts of the world.

Well, a feast it was, a Middle-Eastern feast in this case!

Absolutely excited to be invited to enjoy the Valentine’s menu at Shabestan Singapore. My other half loves Middle-Eastern cuisine, so we are at the right spot here. We arrived at 7pm for dinner and did not really know where the restaurant was, we know Robertson Quay pretty well but realised quickly we always go to the same places if we are in that area. Time to try a new culinary experience.

The Middle Eastern restaurant Shabestan was found quickly (between Robertson Walk and Robertson Quay). We were friendly asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and we decided for a nice table for two outside. The restaurant had a good vibe, was busy with a diverse crowd and has a very nice and large bar (well stocked with a large variety of wines the manager told us).

Eating at the riverside in Singapore is always nice! One of the managers Jojo really took good care of us, with her friendly approach she informed us about all courses of the Valentine’s menu. We started with a fresh Persian pomegranate salad which was followed by a huge and steaming hot flatbread (eat it when it’s hot) and the Lebanese beetroot hummus. A very tasteful start served with a cold glass of bubbly Prosecco.

After this followed the most anticipated meat platter which included a combination of lamb, beef and chicken kebabs, fish, and shrimps and was absolutely lovely. The meat is well prepared, juicy, and the fish is marinated and seasoned well. Served with yummy rice and amazing spicy and tasty lamb meatballs.

Shabestan Dessert

We ended the evening with perfect piece (not too big, because we overindulged ourselves already on the kebabs) of rose cheesecake. A well-balanced combination of cheesecake and a touch of rose flavour. Not too sweet and a surprisingly good combination.

Absolutely ask for their fresh made chilli sauce, we ate it with just about everything and you will love it. We did not know Shabestan yet and will definitely go back here! That is the best feedback they can get :)

Go check it out!

They also have a vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free menu.

You can enjoy their special Valentine’s menu until 14 February 2022.
