If you’re looking for a beautiful place to catch the sunset in Phuket, a favourite for our family is Hugo Hut on Layan Beach. This is the beach we lived on when we first moved to Phuket three and a half years ago, and it’s a beautiful place, especially in the high season, when the currents aren’t dumping rubbish on the beach every day.
With the pandemic raging around the world, the impact on the Thai economy has been devastating. Please, if you can, donate to the World Food Programme, so we can help those most impacted by this crisis. Up to 200 million people have moved into extreme poverty due to this crisis, and no one should starve. Thailand’s beautiful people have been hard hit too.
As you can imagine for Phuket, any business linked to travel and tourism has been very badly impacted. However, one of the beautiful things has been watching local businesses innovate and come up with new ways to succeed. Especially the restaurant businesses, which are really struggling through this time.
We first paid attention to Hugo Hut, because our friends, Jade Lama and Martin Ostlind (fabulous people) set up a Taste Bar & Grill pop-up when the first lockdown ended last year. One of our favourite restaurants in Phuket, it was a no-brainer to come down and enjoy their amazing food, in such a cool environment. Promise me, when you come back to Phuket, make sure you visit their restaurants and order the Gambas Pil Pil – YUM!!
But they’re not the only ones there, and on our recent visit, it included Aroy Dee for Thai food, Uncle Toma's for pizza, and Beach & Bubbles for a nice selection of wines. Paul's is next door and you can order food from there too.
If you're looking for a great spot for the whole family, this place offers a little bit of magic. Not to forget the local DJs playing their tunes, which makes the vibe extra cool. Our family loves it!
Check it out if you haven’t been down there. Follow the Facebook page and keep up to date with what’s going on.
Cheers and take care everyone!
