The first private Portuguese home cooking in Singapore was born through Green Apron with the intention of making Portuguese gastronomy and its culture known.
Chef Daniel has perfected the flavours of Piri Piri Chicken, one dish that seems to be recognised as a Portuguese dish by locals. Chef Daniel has had a few requests since some time back but only tried perfecting the dish recently.
In Portugal hosts do not like to cook chicken when they host a good meal because chicken is ‘not good enough’. Do you know that beans used to cost more than chickens in Portugal? This is a dish of Portuguese roots from Portuguese colonies Angola and Mozambique. The marinate is the key and Chef Daniel has a secret sauce that is zesty and quite a bit picante - or in other words - spicy.

Polvo à Lagareiro is the Grilled whole octopus legs with Potatoes & Spinach. Some Expat Choice readers would know this dish was the most popular dish served at Boca Restaurant back before the restaurant closed - when they were serving on Club Street. Preparing this dish reminds Chef Daniel of Sunday lunches when he was young.
His mother cooked this dish so easily, but always perfectly. And we finished the tender octopus legs in just a few seconds. Chef Daniel came to understand that it is not easy to cook the octopus to the right texture – it starts with selecting the right octopus and finishes with the right amount of heat. This dish will come to you fully prepared or you can enjoy it as a private dining experience.
