This Communal Dining Experience is Mindbogglingly Good

Published - 30 September 2019, Monday

Entering from a back lane off Keong Saik along Duxton Plains Park, it is clear that HUSH 20 is not going to be your average night out in the little red dot. A truer sentence has never been said.

As you walk in through the small tropical feeling courtyard off Duxton Plains Park, you are greeted by each staff member (a rarity in Singapore) and shown to our communal table. This is where the madness (good madness) begins....

Believe me, you will be more than happy to share, and you will never know who you are sitting next to. This is all a part of what makes HUSH20 mindbogglingly good.

HUSH20 is a pop-up restaurant space in a rustic shophouse located in Duxton Plains Park. Each Month HUSH20 offers a different dining theme from 7pm-10pm nightly.

By presenting a new and carefully curated menu each month, served with its own unique style, inspired by original European eateries with a modern twist, HUSH20 reinvents the pop up experience we have all come to know.

The intimate atmosphere and awe-inspiring delicacies of HUSH20 will take you closer to the crowded streets of Berlin or the top of the Swiss Alps.

The website HERE will give you information on what cuisine is in store from month to month and reservations can only be made by Whats App on +65 8127 2728.

This communal dining experience is limited to 30 communal diners each night. Highly recommended. Read what I have to say below....

ingapore’s first restaurant with a unique pop up concept located at the Duxton Plains Park.

HUSH20 reinvents the pop up experience by presenting a new and carefully curated menu each month; served with its own unique style, inspired by original European eateries with a modern twist.

You'll have an absolute ball here. The atmosphere is electric. We arrived at 7:15pm and the room was already full.

You will join 30 guest, most of whom you will not know ( well maybe a few familiar faces as it is Singapore after all ).

Everyone in the room had a blast by the looks of things. Plenty of free flow food all night and wine, beer included. An excellent price for what was delivered. A Lot of fun had by all. Excellent party night out.

Had you told me a day before that I would love it, I would not have believed you. But, love it I did. As did everyone else.

So who was I sitting next to? For me, it was 90 year old William. A Liverpool Lad by way of Perth. What could possibly go wrong?

Whilst I feared for William's hearing, I need not have worried. He knew he was somewhere special. And so did I. In fact, everyone seemed to know.

I could not wait to peruse the menu. This took all of 20 seconds. Actually, less. The choice was mussels, fries, baguette and wine.

Or Moules Frites to the Europeans. Who, by the way now surrounded us. If you get the impression that William was the average, he was not.

We were surrounded by what could have been a casting call for a European Coca Cola ad. All were young, French, Swiss or Belgians taking full advantage of the free flow mussels and wine. And the flow never stopped.

Steaming cast iron pots of mussels in white wine and parsley promptly arrived. With the fries and bread. And unlike most free flow, the wait staff are smart enough to leave the bottle of wine with the customer. Which made all involved very happy. And very merry.

The mussels were tiny and sweet. Imported twice a week from France. Whilst not my favourite shellfish, they were delicious. Being used to the huge mussels often served, these were a revelation. The bread, was delicious. Chewy, and full of holes. A proper baguette. Another revelation. Especially when dragged through the white wine puddle bathing the mussels.

The fries, were a tad on the cool side. And when mentioned, replaced in a nano second. Fries are fries. Even bad fries are good. Like bad sex or bad pizza, there is no such thing as bad fries!. The Rose was fresh, light and savoury. Perfect with the meal. The entire meal was hard to fault.

In comparison to the ambience, the food could not compete. Which is saying something. It was like being in a crazy tiny jewel of a nightclub in Paris. Windowless. Loud. Excited.

The music too, it seemed, was free flow. By the end of the night, there was dancing on tables. Raucous singing. And game playing. By way of a spinning wheel!!! If this sounds hideous, it wasn’t.

There is nothing like it in Singapore. Get yourself to the next one, by way of their mailing list. hush20.com. It is the only way to be invited. And when you get invited, accept. You will love it.
