Chimichanga Paya Lebar, new TexMex for EastCoasters

Published - 14 December 2022, Wednesday

Chimichanga has opened its latest outlet in Paya Lebar. Who doesn’t love some amazing Mexican and TexMex (SingMex) food washed down with the very best Tequila, and Mezcal cocktails?

That’s what you’ll find at Chimichanga Paya Lebar Quarter. Then, add to that having that Mexican and TexMex (SingMex) food washed down with the very best Tequila and Mezcal cocktails along with the Mexican Ambassador for Singapore.

Could it get any better? Islifearecipe.net was so fortunate this day to be invited to ChimichangaSG‘s 5th outlet opening, Chimichanga Paya Lebar Quarter. What a cracking night it was, with brilliant people, incredible food, and off-the-charts-good drinks. These are the guys who brought you Chimichanga Little India.

You can’t miss out on visiting ChimichangaSG, AKA Chimichanga PLQ, AKA Chimichanga Paya Lebar. It’s uber cool, vibrant, super-friendly, family all the way, has delicious food offerings, and is loaded with tequila and cocktails.

That surely gets my vote. Located on the ground floor of the Paya Lebar Quarter mall, flowing out into the courtyard with alfresco seating, Chimichanga PLQ is a great place to absorb the lively surroundings of Paya Lebar Quarter. A casual yet chic restaurant, the restaurant’s interior boasts vibrant print wallpaper, neon lights, and a bar that exudes Miami vibes.

Yes, that is one big glowing pink ASS on the wall. Chimichanga Paya Lebar blends classic Mexican fare with a unique twist that gives the restaurant a taste all its own. The menu features entrées and appetizers perfect for sharing, including signature fresh fruit frozen margaritas, hand-crafted cocktails, and a variety of its very own Neon Donkey Cerveza (freshly brewed in Singapore).

On 22 November 2022, Paya Lebar Quarter Mall was very fortunate to have the official opening of Chimichanga PLQ. A superb restaurant offering up SingMex / TexMex and Tequila Cocktails. Performing the official opening ceremony was the most amazing Mexican representative for Singapore; Agustin Garcia-Lopez Loaeza – Ambassador of Mexico to Singapore.

What a character Agustin is. Islifearecipe.net had the good fortune to meet him in person at the recent Singapore Food Fare at Marina Bays Sands, where he was promoting new brands of Mexican tequila, coming to Singapore.

Opening Night

To the favourite tipple this launch night; Chimichanga Paya Lebar FROZEN LIME MARGARITA — Tequila Blanco, Curaçao, Fresh Lime Juice, Agave Syrup – blended with ice. This was so my poison this night of the opening. I could not get enough of these down me. A beautiful version using some absolute quality tequila. A stunning version of one of the World’s favourite cocktails. @ $16

Drinks

To some of the food we quaffed this day; Chimichanga PLQ Borracho Fish Tacos. Don’t tell the others…but they are the fave of Chimichanga Paya Lebar’s. Also, don’t forget to get your second set of taco trios at 50% off every Taco Tuesday. There’s an incentive to visit on Tuesdays. Chimichanga PLQ Borracho Fish Tacos come as 3pc of Neon Donkey Hoppy Donkey IPA battered white fish, soft corn tortillas, red cabbage, jalapeño mayo, and pico de gallo, @ $16

Taco

Chimichanga PLQ Carne Asada also comes as 3pc, of Carne Asada skirt steak strips, soft corn tortillas, guacamole, crema, onions. Sadly, I did not get to try these at the soft-launch because they literally flew off the plate when the server came around. But, boy do they look good. @ $18

Our Conclusions of Chimichanga Paya Lebar

The guys who brought you Chimichanga Little India are now firmly in the East, and I love that. Chimichanga Paya Lebar is just such a cool location. Just check those photos of the outside. You are literally sitting outdoors but nicely covered up by the ‘ceiling’, to make this the perfect al fresco dining and drinking location.

Then add to that the thoroughfare that this sits on and it also becomes the perfect people-watching location, especially when people start to checkout from work. It seriously gets mobbed. What a great place to chow down on really good TexMex / SingMex food and just watch that world walking on by.

We even had live music on this night. Great food, lovely staff, stunning drinks, extremely good value for money (especially when the specials are kicking in), and a super ambiance to boot. Chimichang PLQ gets a massive thumbs up from Islifearecipe.net and clearly from the Mexican Ambassador for Singapore as well.

So, Easties! Your hunger for Mexican food can now be satiated thanks to the people that bring you ChimichangaSG and Chimi’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar.

The Chimichanga Paya Lebar store is the most recent restaurant to open under the brand, which first began offering Mexican cuisine in 2016. Its menu features Sing-Mex dishes, which are the brand’s own twist on traditional Mexican cuisine that is designed for the Singaporean palate; patrons can indulge in tacos, loaded nachos, steak, quesadillas, and more.

In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to indulge in hand-crafted cocktails, such as the restaurant’s distinctive flavoured margaritas. In addition to that, there will be a variety of freshly brewed Neon Donkey Cerveza available in draft form (freshly brewed in Singapore).

Chimichanga Paya Lebar is the place to go if you have an appreciation for Mexican cuisine but have not yet sampled the ChimichangaSG version of it. Enjoy!!!
