Mooncakes at Moonbow are certainly something to grab as soon as you can. Whether for self or to present as a gift these come dressed in 4 floral boxes inserted in a divinely beautiful floral suitcase.

I fell in love with the offering at first sight. How could anyone not? If you have a young daughter, the suitcase would afford you instant brownie points.

Opening this floral gift set lay 4 boxes of mooncakes accompanied by a fifth box that contained a sachet of tea. A glorious gift for anyone really, as it is not only so visually appealing but filled with delicious varieties too.

As Mid-Autumn Festival approaches and F&B establishments get creative in their offerings, Moonbow stands quite apart. Not just in its stunning non-standard presentation of a gift box but also in the quality of mooncakes.

With Chef Heman at the helm of Moonbow, a man who has his fingers in many pies, he has chosen simple flavours as fillings. My favourite Asian flavor – black sesame mooncake is the first I have ever tried in a mooncake.

I made a dive for that! Protectively guarding this mooncake from the reach of others at home, I devoured every morsel. It was too delicious to share. I was told that mooncakes are calorific, sigh! This once a year treat wasn’t going to escape me.

Being a traditionalist when it comes to mooncakes, my next pick of the box was the double yolk one. This reminded me of my younger days when we had lanterns in hand and would roam the neighbourhood showing off our designs.

As years go by, more hotels and restaurants are producing mooncakes months ahead of time as they usher in the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. Crafted in lovely designs too, this festival crescendos on 21 September this year.

So feast on these delights as much as you can and spread the love with so much to choose from. Moonbow mooncakes also come in two other varieties - mixed nuts and lychee for those who prefer the nut and fruit flavours respectively.

You may decide to pop in to Moonbow to pick up some mooncakes. If you do, remember that Chef Heman has published six books and is a potter too. You will see his crockery and cutlery designs when you visit.

A stunning space with creativity oozing at the edges. Have a look when you are next in the Dempsey area….
