Hair Transplant in Singapore

Published - 08 June 2019, Saturday

We know that a head full of hair can be a huge confidence booster.

Even Wayne Rooney shocked the football community with a tweet in 2011 saying that: “Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not. I’m delighted with the result.”

In Singapore, the number of people who seek hair transplants is on the rise. At Clifford Aesthetics Clinic, demand for hair transplant procedures increased by five percent in the last five years, with some patients as young as their early twenties. Men make up about 90 percent of the clientele, said Dr. Gerard Ee.

“There is a lot more awareness (about hair loss disorders) these days. People are now moving away from traditional myths about hair regeneration and seeking proven medical therapies to reverse hair loss,” said Dr. Ee.

A common misconception about hair loss is that only men suffer from it. However, it has been well documented that many ladies suffer from hair loss too.

Hair loss can be attributed to many different causes with some reasons being illness, medication, infections or chemicals. However, one of the most common causes of hair loss in Singapore is due to genetics.

Hair tends to recede from the forehead or the crown of the head for men, while women tend to notice thinning on the top of the scalp. Women may notice their hair parting becoming wider gradually and more of their scalp can be seen.

This is when they start googling for hair loss remedies. However, instead of spending thousands on different hair tonics, one can always consider the easiest and permanent route – Hair Transplant.

Clifford Aesthetics Clinic uses Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant technique which involves shifting of healthy follicular units from the back or sides of the head to the area of concern.

Steps involved in a hair transplant procedure:

  1. Shaving and anesthetic
  2. Hair graft inspection
  3. Planning and hair graft implantation

One benefit of doing hair transplant is that it can be done in a targeted area. For example, ladies can choose to close up their hair parting or bring down their hairline. Of course, men can do the same.

Hair Transplant

FUE Hair Transplant is a very safe procedure and it will not leave any visible scars. Clients can start returning to normal activities the following day and for some cases, no one would ever know that they have had a hair transplant done!

The Clifford Clinic is also the first clinic in Singapore to have ARTAS hair transplantation robot where hair grafts are extracted by a highly precise instrument. The doctors have since built on that experience to bring more reliable and desirable results.

The number of grafts needed will depend on the severity of the client. Hair transplanted to any balding area is permanent and it will grow out as per normal.

Clients can expect to see results between 4 to 6 months and up to a year to see full results.

The cost of hair transplant generally range from $6,000 - $12,000 depending on the severity of the hair loss condition. However, the final cost will only be determined after a consultation with the doctor as he will advised the final number of hair grafts needed.

Candidates who are suitable for hair transplant should have:

  • No major medical condition
  • Sufficient hair at a healthy donor site
  • Healthy blood vessels

I've always wandered whether to do this or not. My friends now tell me I'd look weird with hair. Though I'd like to have it of course haha
