Singapore, a bustling city recognised for its iconic skyline and inventive architecture, is now home to an impressive example of hotel sustainability. PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore underwent a nine-month renovation that not only kept its iconic structure but also reduced carbon emissions significantly. This transition saved about 51,300 metric tonnes of carbon emissions during construction, which is the equivalent of chopping down 8.7 million trees or damaging an area larger than all of Singapore's nature reserves combined.

This renovation is centred on the notion of Singapore's first "Garden-in-a-Hotel." There are around 2,400 plants, trees, bushes, and groundcovers from over 60 different flora kinds inside the hotel. These green marvels, which grace 15,000 square feet of space across the hotel, were handpicked for their resistance to indoor growth and light requirements. Aside from their aesthetic value, these plants have an important role as natural air purifiers and carbon dioxide sinks, leading to enhanced air quality and a reduction in carbon dioxide concentration within the hotel.

However, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore's commitment to sustainability extends far beyond green décor. Here are some of the notable green initiatives that distinguish this hotel:

  • Solar Power: Solar panels power the hotel, utilising renewable energy to power guest lifts and emergency lighting. This not only decreases their carbon footprint but also secures a long-term source of energy.
  • Filtered Water System: Every guestroom has a filtered water system, which eliminates the need for plastic water bottles. This environmentally conscientious decision prevents 360,000 plastic bottles from damaging the environment each year.

  • Motion Sensor Technology: Intelligent motion sensors control lighting and cooling throughout the hotel, reducing energy use. This saves not only expenditures but also wasteful energy consumption.
  • Urban Farm: The hotel's rooftop Urban Farm exemplifies the farm-to-table, farm-to-bar, and farm-to-spa ideas. This unique farm not only supplies fresh vegetables for the hotel's culinary delights, but it also improves urban food supply resilience.
