Spice World Hot Pot Celebrates First Anniversary where Mala Crosses Paths with Bubble Milk Tea

If you want to try something very unique and locally influenced....read this. How anyone could think of creating a hotpot with two distinct flavours loved by Singaporeans has got to be brilliant.

Spice World Hot Pot prides itself with its constant creative and playful food presentations certainly level up its game with its out of the world ‘Yuan-Yang’ hot pot that features numbing spicy ‘Mala’ and… Bubble Milk Tea with Matcha! What makes this Bubble Milk Tea hot pot interesting, is that you can drink from it with the extended straws provided. Now you can eat your spicy food and soothe your numbing lips and mouth with sips of Bubble Milk Tea just ‘next door’.

Locating near Liang Court in the Clarke Quay precinct, the 200-seater restaurant is easily spotted with its two adorable adult-sized bears sitting on the bench where one may pause for insta-grammable moments. Observing the promotional posters, one could guess that ‘bear’ is the mascot for Spice World Hot Pot.

Dozens of red and white oriental lanterns decorated the ceiling, complementing the marble top tables and colourful motif chairs.

Walking into the inner halls of the dining area, a long bar sets in the middle of the hall with more than 20 different types of ingredients to mix your own sauce palatable to your taste buds. Helpful informational posters are displayed to recommend ways in concocting various spicy sauces that will further enhance the food. There were several spicy oils available for one who wants to add more spicy to the ‘Mala’ hot pot.

Here lies the Bear who was going to be in ‘hot soup’, literally. The Bear was itself part of the ‘Mala’ package and we teared as we witnessed its meltdown to provide us with the spicy soup. The bear did a spa before it completely became one with the ‘Mala’. We muttered a silent thank you as we dipped the fresh plate of beef into the inviting soup.

The Matcha Bubble Milk Tea has its set of sweet and savoury toppings to eat with, like taro, purple sweet potatoes, pumpkin, yam, coconut and fruit jellies, mala bakwa and tender milk beef. An acquired taste, the milk beef was extremely tender to taste on the tongue and had a soft, milky texture which made it an interesting dish.

I was in awe as the famous ‘The Mermaid’, made of Premium Barbie Beef Wagyu, was brought out of the kitchen and to our table.

It was certainly a sight to behold, and we were reminded of one particular superstar who had a seemingly similar dress. Undressing the mermaid was not on our agenda but we had to have her ‘dress’ in our hotpot. And may I conclude The Mermaid’s dress was superbly tender and delicious to eat. We ate it all within minutes. It was spicy, our lips were numbed but we were left craving for The Mermaid more.

It was an exceptional experience which stimulates one’s palate and imagination with each creative dish that was served. The chefs and team behind each creation have put in tremendous effort as the meat was fresh and ideas were highly innovative. A great way to bond with families and friends over this talk-of-the-town ‘Yuan-Yang’ Mala and Matcha Bubble Milk Tea Hot Pot.
