Stepping in to the HRC I was blown away by the huge lunchtime crowd. It felt like a weekend brunch as every table was taken. I was back to review their new “Taste of Tropicana” menu which launched on 13 March and runs till 28 April. With the offer of 5 tropical cocktails I decided to try the Coconut Mojito which is a blend of coconut rum, fresh lime, mint leaves, topped with homemade coconut soda served in a fresh coconut. It almost tasted non-alcoholic as the refreshing coconut water which was made into a soda, comprised bulk of the drink. Definitely worth a try for those who prefer a light alcohol tinge to their cocktail or as a first drink to start the night. I moved on to a pineapple caipirinha which is cachaça 51 rum infused with sweet honey pineapple, served on crushed ice and freshly squeezed lime. This was a good contrast to the scorching heat outside and blended well with the choice of food we were being served. I didn’t try more cocktails as others at my table were raving about them. The proof is in the pudding as they say. All cocktails cost about $25. Of all the dishes on offer I loved this first one, the Mahi-Mahi Fish Tacos. Crunchy taco shells coupled with light flavors of pan-fried Cajun mahi-mahi topped with slaw and mango salsa this was a beautiful combo for the tropical heat we are experiencing right now. I could eat all 3 tacos which come in one serving and walk out feeling comfortable. A must try and I’ll bet, will be a very popular dish with patrons!!! For those with a more meaty appetite, the Cubano Sandwich was yummy. Slow roasted pulled pork, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard mayonnaise layered on a toasted roll served with spicy french fries and tropical fruit salad, this was simply delicious. What I thought was a fabulous side with the roll were the french fries which had a paprika seasoning on them. The pulled pork too was tender and I loved the taste of sour from pickles with the spice of mustard. A combo of amazing flavours. Delish! We were honored to meet the chef who created this beautiful Tropicana menu and made a surprise entrance as we moved on to the grilled tuna steak on pineapple rice. A great main meal for any seafood lover, the jalapeno pineapple salsa plus sweet & sour sauce lifted the serious taste of tuna. A very healthy dish which even though large in portion would keep you feeling light. Very palatable especially for the conservative patron, who expects a rice and fish meal. this dish was loved most by other reviewers. By this time I was wondering how I was going to eat more. Portions at HRC are generous to say the least. De-constructing the marinated grilled shrimp from it’s skewer of pineapple and peppers this was cleverly served with coconut and kidney beans on a bed of basmati rice. Somehow the bed of rice which I’d expected to be heavy, was so fragrant and grainy that I could have eaten the whole plate. Totally loved the mix of beans with rice – stunning! The juiciness of grilled pineapple and peppers which burst in my mouth, blended with the kidney beans and prawns led me to believe that the chef really knew what he was doing when he created this menu. It’s so apt for lunch or dinner depending on how severe your hunger pangs are. My last dish for the day was Brazilian chicken bobo. The only food I know of Brazil is churrasco, where skewers of bar-b-cued meat are served to your plate. Never heard of bobo so I had to google this one – a chowder like Brazilian dish usually made with shrimp. Slow cooked chicken with carrot & potatoes in a red coconut gravy this would definitely present as a hearty meal for dinner. Much like a stew, I felt this would be a wonderful choice to have if you were in need of a wholesome meal to soothe the senses. With a bit of bread to dunk and soak up the sauce, I’d say you’d be strutting out of the HRC feeling very pleased with yourself. Surprisingly, even though I tried 5 dishes with cocktails (and it was a weekday lunch) I felt light after the meal. I felt the accompaniments like pineapple and coconut balanced out the heavier protein. A must try since we live in Singapore and don’t have access to Tropicana island style food. This is a good time to rock up to the HRC and enjoy some of these dishes on offer. All are in the range of $30. Even better if you book in to have dinner on Friday, 22 March as the HRC is hosting a Viva Lah Tropicana night from 9pm to 2am. Kick back after dinner to enjoy two bands - Jive Talking & Havana Social Club, where best dancers and best dressed will win prizes worth up to $1000. See you there!

I have to take your hat of to Hard Rock here in Singapore. The team have put together a massive Tropicana menu ( which is a supplement menu to the standards - like the Legendary Burger - oh YES) - the standard menu that we have all grown to love - and by the looks of the lunch crowd on Wednesday - return for month after month ) There is literally something for every member of the family on this Tropicana menu. A big fat yes from me for this selection. And I am so looking forward to Friday 22 March for this One Night Only battle of the bans. Havana social Club and Jive Talking - what a riot.... this is going to be a night to remember. I'm not such a huge eater - like many Singaporean's who love huge meals... Hard Rock is the place for all walks of life and all sizes of stomachs. This menu has Tacos, Fish, Chicken and pulled pork. The Tacos - a fish taco is really tasty. Nourishing and hearty all in one. This is the perfect meal if you don't want too spicy or too hot. Its a great combinations of put-it-together yourself Taco- which comes already packed with the fish although you assemble the rest which makes it all the more exciting when you like your taco a certain way.
