What do you think about Calling all Bartenders...Australian [Gin] Open to Launch in Asia for the first time ?

Following the inaugural launch of the Australian [Gin] Open in the UK in 2018, Four Pillars is bringing their annual bartender competition to Asia in 2019.

Spanning six of Asia’s dynamic cities – Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok and Tokyo – the Australian [Gin] Open challenges bartenders in the great bars of Asia to turn Four Pillars’ craft gin expressions into creative cocktails.
“The Four Pillars Australian [Gin] Open is a great way for us to celebrate the craft and creativity of the many superb bartenders throughout Asia, and gives us an opportunity to bring two of them to our home in Healesville to get a true sense of Four Pillars and what we’re about. I can’t wait to see what these fantastic bartenders come up with, using our Aussie gin,” says Stuart Gregor, one of the three Four Pillars founders.
The Grand Final of the Australian [Gin] Open will take place in Singapore on Wednesday 8 May, just a day before the Thursday 9 May awards ceremony for Asia’s 50 Best Bars, for which Four Pillars is the Official Gin Partner for the 2019 and 2020 editions.

Gin It To Win It - Calling all Bartenders...

Submissions for entry close on Friday 15 March 2019. To participate, bartenders are required to submit one concoction that contains at least 30ml of the award-winning Rare Dry Gin – together with the drink specifications, name and an image of the masterpiece – to Four Pillars.
Eight bartenders from each city will then be cherry-picked to compete in their local Regional Final. The top participant from each Regional Final held on Thursday, 4 April 2019  will be flown to Singapore for the Grand Final, after which they will also attend the Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019 awards and the 10 May opening night of Singapore Cocktail Festival’s Festival Village.

At both the Regional Finals and Grand Final, contestants are to prepare two portions each of their initial cocktail submission and a second creation that must use a minimum 30ml of any other Four Pillars gin available in their home market.

A judging panel that comprises Four Pillars’ Creative Director of Drinks and global runner up of Bacardi Legacy 2018, James Irvine; Four Pillars’ Singapore-based Gin Ambassador & Trade Relations Manager in Asia, Samuel Ng; along with other bar industry leaders will award points for the drinks based on taste, aroma, creativity, concept and presentation; as well as for the cocktail experience based on audience engagement, brand knowledge and understanding, and presenting the drink within the time limit.

“A great cocktail can be enhanced with the perfect serve experience. That’s why we are considering the complete package, from sip to service, as part of the judging criteria,” says James Irvine, Four Pillars’ Creative Director of Drinks.

And The Winner Is...

The final face-off of the Australian [Gin] Open in Singapore will crown two champions, who will each win an all-expenses paid, week-long trip to Australia, and a visit to the Four Pillars’ distillery where they get to distill their own gin.

In addition to a profile piece in Asia’s leading bar industry publication, DRiNK Magazine, the duo will also get the opportunity to showcase their winning cocktails at the Four Pillars’ booth at the Singapore Cocktail Festival on Friday 10 May, alongside Four Pillars’ Gin Ambassador & Trade Relations Manager in Asia, Samuel Ng.

If I was a bartender I’d be mixing up a gin concoction to be reckoned with - this event is so worthwhile for the industry I love going to bars and discovering new environments and new drinks or at least new ways of experiencing alcohol
