There are so many people doing amazing things in Phuket to help our community during this pandemic and the severe economic impact it’s created. Phuket is obviously not alone in the fall-out, as we witness it’s growing impact across the region and around the world.

But in Phuket, we have come together, with charity, kindness and helping hands everywhere. It’s been very heartening watching our community join hands to face this very challenging time and help where we can.

Like any other major tourist destination, Phuket has been hit hard, with the vast majority of employment tied to the travel and tourism sector – a sector devastated by COVID19. This means day-to-day survival challenges are very real for many people.

To ensure we are all helping where we can, I wanted to make sure everyone knew about Phuket Academy of Performing Arts (PAPA) initiative called the Lean On Me Food Relief Program. Which, of course, they announced with a song.

In partnership with Villa Market – who I believe have REALLY stepped up during this crisis, by managing donations in-store, and making it easy for us to buy food to be handed out to the community, a big shout out of thanks Villa Market!!! We always shop with you because of this. It is appreciated.

And Villa is helping with The Lean On Me Food Relief Program, which is happening at all Villa Market’s across the Island.

It’s easy

It’s super simple too. When you check out, you’ll see a bar code on the till. However, if you can’t see it, simply ask. The supermarkets aren’t consistent in how they’re managing this, but it is possible to donate in all of them.

Tell them how much you want to donate, they’ll fill in a bit of paperwork, and you pay your donation.

The cost for a food pack is 250 Baht, and one of these packs can feed a family of three for up to two weeks.

Many of our neighbours have no idea where their next meal is coming from, and this is a small way we can all help. The more that do it, the more difference we can make.

So please, look out for Lean On Me Food Relief Program next time you’re shopping at Villa Market and let’s help everyone get through this time together.

Follow PAPA’s Facebook page for regular updates on this initiative, as well as the amazing work they are doing to inspire passion for music in our kids, as well as supporting musical education for orphanages and more. They are good people.

Cheers

Andrea

"My daughter and I love this music school and can't say enough wonderful things about our experience with the Phuket Academy of Music school over these past many years! To find an environment in which you can instantly see the professionalism and passion for music that the teachers share with their students is priceless! The teachers at PAPA are all professionals in their own fields and create a happy, fun, positive learning environment combined with patience and encouragement. Honestly, the opportunities offered to the students of PAPA are simply incredible, world class and completely life changing! My daughter has blossomed beyond ALL expectations in her musical, ensemble and performance skills under the guidance of her teachers at PAPA studying and sitting ABRSM and Rock School exams in both Violin and Piano. I have no words strong enough to ever thank them for all they have done for her these past years!" Danni Alderson

“My 15 year old daughter had guitar lessons with Colin for a little over 1 year. I was surprised at how quickly she picked up playing and within 6 months was banging out some of my old favourites. I would highly recommend Colin for teaching children as he has a great mannerism that is comforting to his students. I only wish my daughter had kept up with the lessons but at age 17 her interests changed.” Phil Bender
