Hi everyone,

If you’re like us, you can’t believe how much the world has changed in the space of a week. And if you’re like us, you’re probably heartbroken by the way our cities and their people have been hit.

Expat Choice is a publication inextricably linked to getting people out into those cities, and right now that’s something a lot of you don’t feel like doing. But we’re founded on enriching people’s lives and sharing the best cultural experiences our cities have to offer. And that doesn’t change, even if the world looks different right now.

For the moment those experiences may not involve dining at your favourite restaurant or going to the theatre or swimming at your local pool. But they might involve takeaway from those same diners, live-streaming performances by world-class orchestras (check out The Philadelphia Orchestra performing Beethoven Symphonies 5 & 6) and popular musicians (check out John Legend Full At Home Instagram Concert ) or taking your self-isolation station to a peaceful and secluded staycation destination or a live stream guided yoga-session in your home.

As always, were chatting with some of the regions most thought-provoking, inspiring and influential figures to share stories. We’re asking experts to tell us about “mindfulness in the time of coronavirus”. We’re also preparing for the region’s restaurants, cafes, bars, galleries and entertainment venues to spring back to life – because like us, you’ll be raring to go out again, and they’ll be raring to welcome us all back. And in the meantime, more than ever, we need to support the local businesses and industries that make our cities so great – even if we’re doing that from inside our homes.

For 3 years and counting, we’ve been covering Singapore’s world-class hospitality businesses and the wonderful people that make them tick. We were there when their venues were just a concept, and we were there when they opened, innovated, expanded and hit a speed bump. And we’ll be here when they bounce back.

On 1 June 2020 www.expatchoice.asia launches digitally in 14 cities across Asia. Our mission is to enrich the cultural lives of you, our readers. Times are a little strange right now, but that mission doesn’t change. Because culture never stops.

Hey Singapore and to our Expat Choice Regional network members in 14 cities across Asia It sure has been a tumultuous and unsettling couple of days across the region. I, myself have just returned from Manila where streets are blocked and under armed guard. No coming in and no going out across the precincts of the city itself, unless under strict circumstances. Life as we know it has been hijacked, and it looks like the consequences of coronavirus will reverberate around the globe for a long time. Expat Choice is a publication founded on getting people out into their cities, and right now that’s something a lot of people don’t feel like doing. But we’re also about enriching people’s lives, and the way we see it, that doesn’t change if you’re cooped up in your house, especially those on 14-day self-quarantine across the region. As we all come to terms with our new (hopefully temporary) world, I’m once again reminded how our cities across the region are packed with generous and resourceful folks who are finding clever ways for us to continue to enjoy this beautiful city. If you have some special solutions to share within the community please contact me directly and I will ensure we publish your announcements We want to share more cool ideas and initiatives with the world, so share as you will with the Expat Choice Community across Asia Stay safe, Singapore.
