The service from the young local staff is brilliant. For an expat is a great introduction to local food with a twist.

The deep fried tofu is moreish (US$1)...and the spicy sauce that was for dipping was just the right accompaniment.

Try the Shan Noodles (pictured) US$1.50, its a dry noodle dish with a special sauces folded through the noodles to give it a unique local flavour.

There is a chilled and relax atmosphere and you will pretty much be guaranteed that other expats will be eating there.

The room probably needs a bit of a spruce up but overall, the food was fresh and delicious, and plenty of it.

Congratulations to the hands-on owner for his smiles and warm hospitality.

Shan Kitchen is a really great little restaurant in Yangon, on Nawaday street. Highly recommended. Delicious, authentic, nice ambience, artistic decoration and pleasant temperature, friendly staff and very good value for money. Lots of veggie options too!!

Didn't know fried tofu can taste this good - light inside, crispy outside with great tamarind dipping sauce. We also loved the Shan noodles. We came at dinner time and rather late at about 9:15pm and the service was efficient - maybe it was because we were the last guests and the kitchen was closing. Minimalist decor. Good prices. Must visit. Great for first timers to Yangon to settle into some great food.
